[size=large]I bought a used fuel hand pump like in the photo below. I took off the too-short suction tube and installed a longer tube that sets about 2" off the bottom of the tank. Added a new external, clear filter bowl and new gas hose. The pump seems to work fine mechanically, it turns easily, there is a sucking noise when the handle is turned, but no gas is coming up even into the clear bowl fuel filter. I don't really see a way to prime this pump unless you took the curved shaped head off the top of the pump and poured fuel down from the top. That would of course entail taking the hose off as well. There is a small valve you can see in the picture, but I don't think it's big enough to use as a priming valve. According to the literature I found, these are supposed to be self-priming pumps. Just wondering if anybody's had any experience with these and can tell me something I don't know. (uh, yes, there is over a 100 gal of fuel in the 250 gal tank)
Thanks,
