I found this object the other day i aint got a clue what it is im from England the object about 2 inchs long its similar to a inside cabinet catch but it aint
Thanks
ps the date wrong i havnt set the camera correct yet

small faceplate for a door knob or something like that? How's that for a guess?

i give up...
what is it??

I havnt found out what it is yet but a specialist says its roman or saxon i got to send it away to find out i let you know asap.

I doubt if it's that old ...it looks quite modern to me.The object looks as though it has countersunk screw holes and the romans and saxons never had countersunk screws as far as i'm aware.I hope i'm wrong.

The picture doesnt give it justice its mud not countersink holes i can send another picture if you think im wrong 2 local specialists recommended the date

Looks like a drawer pull for a small drawer. The knob attaches in the middle and its screwed to the face of the drawer at the ends. I've seen some like that on the face of jewelry box drawers.

I think you are close....the cover is missing though. I think that is the base part part. The wires went through the hole and contact switch went in the "tray", the cover with the button snapped on over the whole assembly covering up the mounting screws.

Hi Martinfabio, thanks for the extra pics....it's starting to look a bit more interesting now i can see it a little better.I seem to be able to see that it is quite well decorated on the inset plate and that it was once covered in gold plate....like the gold the saxons used to cover their brooches in.If this is the case i would suggest it may be a decorative mount of some description.....more likely saxon than roman.

I found one of these last year. Its a saxon belt mount.Mine was verified as such.Similar types were found in the Sutton Hoo hoard.Nice one-its a fantastic find

ps-the hole in the middle is a later change-thats why its not central.Probably used for something else when it fell out of use

How about a picture of the backside?

I finally got an email from the portble antiques scheme they confirm its an anglo saxon 6th century belt mount style I what ever that means its very unusal with a hole in the middle i got to send it off so i can be recorded properly
thanks for all your suggestions

happy hunting
