This is all I could find about this company (see link below) --- wondering if this is a part off of an old steam car? What are your thoughts?

Check the dates thru the us patents web site will show you a list of all patents issued on those dates. Then you will know if it was for sure one of their cars or something else IE sewing machine cool find no matter what!
 
Zenith Carburetor float cover for White Motor Company. The patent numbers are actually patent dates, the latest being June 27 1916. I'm sorry, you missed the steam era by just a few years. This same part was used on many different makes/models of cars and trucks and were stamped accordingly. Yours being marked as White Motor Co. Unfortunately, I cannot find a picture of a carb with this cover mounted on a motor. It was made after 1916 but the style is mostly seen in the mid to late 20's and early 30's.
