Seems that the soil here in NY does'nt like coppers.
Most of the wheats I dig are hard to read. I tried soaking'em in olive oil for weeks(did nothing much)
I tryed heat treatments to no avail..
Just soap and H20 & nothing..... <img src="/metal/html/cry.gif" border=0 width=40 height=15 alt=":cry">
I even tried stone washing'em at work (not)
I have not come up with any good ways as of yet but maby someone else has an idea ???????
I keep'on throwin 'em in the big Jar...... <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

Thanks for the advice guys....Where are you in NY Pulltabby? Im on Long Island.

I don't use my fingers to get the softened crud off. Instead I use a QTip while keeping the coin submerged. I sometimes have to repeat the process 3 or 4 times. Once I'm satisfied that I've got as much junk off as I can, I soak them in olive oil (extra virgin) for a few days. The peroxide won't get the extra griity crusty crap off though. For those I just leave them in olive oil only and it can take awhile. I have some crusty IH's that have been soaking for over a year!!!

Frase44,
Don't clean them past a warm water soaking andalight tooth brushing,Only to get the loose dirt off.The patina will be the best shape of the coin and if you take it off it will be pitted and still continue to corrode.Indan heads and wheats will give will still give you a good return if you sell them and you cannot make them better than the way you find them.Don't forget the don't make them any more.

Here's some of the deep fried wheaties and Indians I find here in the Western NY area. Also notice the discoloration of the nickel that will never come clean
