Help finding a ring in my garden

Hi my girlfiend lost a gold ring in her garden about 5 years ago and it's got alot of trash in the soil im using a Teknetics t2 what would be the best setting for me to use the find this ring thanks Matt

You state 5 years ago ring was lost. I get the impression this is an on going year to year garden. That being said it's been tilled for 5 years.. Up down on the dirt ..Right?.

Ring might be 7", ring maybe 2" in the ground depending on the turn of soil.... Do a test run first. Use a little disc mode . Set 40 for all iron out.

If you do not find the ring after griding the entire garden area try all metal and dig every target. Use sensitivity as needed at what ever is stable.........

Set your sens to about 60 to start.......... It's going to depend on how the rings lies in the ground as to what signal your going to get. Do some sample air tests with a close to size ring and see how it reads turned all different ways under the coil..

And if, after following the good advice given here, and a 'thorough search', you do not find the ring. It may have been lost outside of the garden. Just a thought. Further searching of areas around garden may be necessary.

First search today didnt find the ring. just some new coins and the ring is definitely there as we was messing around in the garden when it was lost and we see it drop but just neva managed to find it. Im having another day at it just not tomorrow as im of detecting on an old farm that use to hold an old medieval fort will post back with my finds thanks matt.:)

Man if you saw that ring fall 5 years ago and now you are looking for it........ lets hope its wroth it.
How big is the garden area that you saw it fall in?

I would think any metal detector in all metal mode would scream out if you put your coil over it, unless its a large garden and you have a really big tiller turning the soil

Tell ya what, if I was looking at this in my garden, I think I'd lay out a tarp and dig out about 6 inches into the tarp. I'd even it out and then check thouroughly both the garden and the dirt. I might consider screening the dirt and setting it aside then doing it again. If I still hadn't found it I'd look elsewhere or quit.
just thinkin'
Tom
Good luck on both fronts! HH!

Personally I would set the T2 on 14 Sensitivity in Disc mode on default 10 disc... 3 tone mode and dig all mid and high tones and then scan slowly gridding the area. If you don't find it on 14 sensitivity .. crank it up to 20 and start over. If there is a lot of trash in the area... the lower sens will give you better target separation and you should still punch a few inches into the ground.
