Howdy all....
i bought a used fisher 1280-x.... the coil wire has been yanked out of the control box.....
i got it apart.... it looks like the ground wire...
for the red and white leads get soldered in with each lead....
the bigger problem is..... i can't tell which way the leads go on the board....
if you look at the control box.... front to back.....
the coil wire comes in the back on the left side....
and solders to the top if the board on the left.... front to back...
is the red wire closest to the front???? or the white one????
i 'm not having any luck trying to find a diagram.....
it seems like such a simple thing to fix.....
but i'd hate to blow the unit for a small mistake.....

any help would be greatly appreciated....

if you look at the control box.... front to back.....
the coil wire comes in the back on the RIGHT side....
and solders to the BOTTOM of the board on the RIGHT.... front to back...

i took some pics the best i could.... i got a lousey camera.... i'll try to do better if the pics dont help..... pic 1 is the face... pic 2 and 3 show the right side bottom of board... i'm pointing a pencil at the two wire ends that are leftover from being yanked out.... pic four has no pencil... but you can see the wire tips in front of the phone jack lookin peice... the wires above( on top right of board ) in the zip tie go to the head phones and the battery packs...... if i need to take better pics... tell me what to do... and i'll do it......
thank you sir.... anthony

Call Steve Noga, he can repair it for you and won't rip you off like I have heard Fisher was doing. They want more to fix a detector than it is worth. Not sure about the new owners. Steve is a great guy and used to be an authorized fisher repair center, may still be.

Tell him Jerry in Virginia said call.

The red wire to the front. Red wire gnd. behind red wire. From front #1 (red wire) #2 (gnd.) #3 Ground for white wire, #4 the last pad gets the white wire. Don,t let the two gnd.wires touch each other.

If anyone has a picture from the above view of the wires and below "belly shot" of the wires going into the board it would help with the repair. I also have the same problem but mine is worse lol. I will update here also on how mine is going. Goodluck anthony.

I am suprised that they did not just dip the board in Epoxy. I guess that is a good thing though for repair purposes!

I have a 1280-x.the coil has some wear most of it is on the back.c Can I put electrical tape on this to protect it?Where can i find coils and a hip mount for the 1280?

If your coil wires came off, but you don't know how they go and make an error, you won't damage your machine. It just won't work properly till you get the wires correct. Sometimes a simple color code is silkscreened on the board on one side or the other. Or perhaps the wires are laid, bent or arranged such that an order can be guessed at.

Scott, you'll get better response to your unrelated question by posting it as a separate, new topic. Sure, you could tape it over. If there's holes worn all the way through, it should be made certain it's dry inside, then patch with some fiberglass or epoxy or something more durable than tape.

SUCCESS!!!!!!! just wanted to let everyone know that the 1280x works perfectly...... i want to thank everyone here..... i couln't have made the repairs without your input.... special thanks to Everett Cavanah and nguyensky who followed up and kept me on it....:detecting::fisher:

...I have a 1280X that had the leads for the battery pack break;cause the geniuses at Fisher di not leave enought slack in the leads so's not put a strain on the wiring when the battery pack was out for battery exchange,etc....I just got some of the same size wiring,a cut and a splice on both sides, and now Ive got 12 inches of slack with the battery pack out.;...WELL- not that much;maybe a couple inches....
