Found a flat button in an area where lots of civil war items have been found. Tried taking a picture of it but not sure it will help much so I will describe it best I can. The front side is completely blank or wiped. I need your help figuring out the backmark. The letters are plated gold. On one side of the shank I can make out two stars (*) with ten letters in between. Some letters are clear but others not so much. It looks like:
1) K (or maybe H)
2) E (not real sure)
3) S (definite)
4) T (definite)
5) I (not real sure)
6) R (definite)
7) ? (could possibly be an N)
?
9) L (definite)
10) E (definite)
There are more letters on the other side of the shank but cannot make out any of them. Is anyone familiar with a backmark using the letters above? Thanks... Mike
