Hunted a late 1700 cellar Hole Monday and Found a Military Button .The button on the right is the one I found . The one on the Left I got off-line . It's a enlisted mans civil War button . Could that be what mine is ? Or is it older ? Thanks

or should I say "War of Northern Aggression"? But what do I know, I'm just a "liboral Yank" according to another forum ;) Maybe some of our Civil War experts can confirm...

My guess is that it is a Liberal Yankee General Staff Officer's Button. But then again, I don't know my buttons from a hole in the ground!

All the markings on the back of the Button are worn off . It's Two piece button and was found in MA.I also found a Mourning Ring

Any markings on that? Alotta mourning rings had dates/initials & stuff like that. Is it gold?
Even though you found the buttons in Mass., I think it's still safe to say it's Civil War period. I've found several in our area. I have a few that the shield sticks out & was told those are post war. I've even found confederate buttons in fields & wondered how the heck they got there

Bill , the Ring is Gold Plated . The only letters that you can make out ( read ) are an S , and a V . All the rest of the Gold is worn off the center of the ring . Wish it was in better shape...but glad I found it .

were EX. Finds. But I also found two other Buttons there with the C$ . No Coins yet , the area around the cellar Hole is over grown with wild raspberry's . So I have to get over this week and clear out the sit with a brush cutter .

Look at the pictures of me with a sickle (better than a paintbrush I guess) :D Cleaning up a site of brush & then iron can payoff...
