Help needed wiring headphone plug.

I bought some maz big blue headphones second hand, the plug in detachable lead was missing so i bought a new length of headphone lead and two jacks, i have soldered the earth braid to the big earth tag inside the plug the red wire i have soldered to the smaller center tag and the white wire to the other slightly larger tag the trouble is the audio is barely audible when wired this way i guess i have wired them wrong can anyone advise me.

i have wired them mono with the ring disconnected but they still dont work , i am not sure what to make of this problem, i have wired the jacks stereo but they still dont work they wont work when wired mono too . Here are some resistance tests that i have done on some koss headphones that are known to work ok with the detector, sleeve to ring resistance 111ohms. sleeve to tip resistance 109 ohms.tip to ring resistance 220 ohms.tip to sleeve 110ohms. now these are the resistance readings on my phones that wont work . Sleeve to ring resistance open circuit. sleeve to tip resistance 20 ohms. tip to ring resistance open circuit. tip to sleeve resistance 20 ohms. The koss phones seem to be wired differently.

If these headphones are not hard wire at the headphone you may need to check the tip to tip and ring to ring of the phone plugs to see if you have continuity. William

RingProfessional: It sounds to me that the phones that you are trying to use are low impedance phones~20 Ohms. The koss phones are high impedance~109 Ohms. Your detector probably requires a high impedance phone to work properly. By hooking up a low impedance phone to your detector you are loading your detectors output down to much. There are ways around this like using a matching transformer. But would the hassle be worth it? I hope I've helped, and haven't confused you.
