Help needed with ring type

Found this ring the other day, its one of those tri rings that when taken off the finger fall apart into a three link chain. Bugger of a puzzle to get it back together.

At first sight I thought I had a gold ring but its not. To me it looks like copper or bronze but each segment of the ring is stamped 975 and I didn't think a copper or bronze would be stamped.

So can someone tell what the numbers 975 mean.

Thanks

Could be wrong here but it looks like a mix of white, yellow and rose gold. You'd probably need an acid test to confirm. All I could find for the 975 mark was it could be from Sweden.

However it turns out it is an a very nice find.

That looks to be custom made, and by the looks of it those rings are gold.

Take it to a jeweler and have then test each ring to find out.

Did my own bit of research and I have to agree with DiggerODirt, it seems like the numbers 975 are for 97.5% silver and I'm guessing that the other 2.5% is copper or maybe even gold to give the copper/gold colour.

Now for the interesting bit. Out of the ground the numbers register all over the place on the Etrac, take your pick from 12 17, 12 28, 12 32 or 12 35. When spread out as three links it generally sits around 12 17 but put together it comes in around 12 32. I think when it was in the ground it was 12 28 if I remember correctly. Probably the three different combinations of metal in the rings is what's making the numbers jump around. But having said that I would have expected 97.5% sterling silver to register in the high 40's.

That's interesting, all the silver rings I have dug, whether they are .925 or .975 all come up with a very distinct signal at or near the 12.45-12.47 range, your readings are more like gold, or (hopefully not) silver plated brass.have you tried an air test on a known silver item, and compare the two.........just trying to solve your query.....jim

Almost looks like three separate bands of gold, silver and copper

the numbers are not 975, they are 375. .375 times 24 = 9 karats. its 9 karat gold.

Even with in 50% copper added the silver has distinctive white color. It's is impossible to change color of silver adding only 2.5% of ligature.

It is a gold. Definitely. 375 stamp (37.5% or 9K purity).

Very nice ring, BTW.

OK everyone, thanks very much for all your opinions. Moonshine, your mathematics much a lot of sense and I have to admit the ring certainly looks gold and not silver. Each ring is a unique colour with one band being gold another silver and the other copper, which makes for an interesting looking ring.

I have rephotographed the numbers on each of the three ringlets and have included the photos here for everyone to come to their own conclusion. At first glance to numbers do look like 975, especially for the top ring, but on closer inspection and looking more closely at the bottom two rings I think the numbers are 375. I believe the stamp the jeweller was using had a flaw in it and was making the 3 come out looking like a 9.

What does everyone think?

Yes, 3 rings, each are 9K.

Nice find.
