i went to a whites dealer today. still a little bit out of my range but someday if i keep my pennies i keep finding. lol

Setting it in Disc mode. Turn the discriminate knob all the down, lay a nickel on the ground and while passing your coil over the nickel, slowly turn your discriminate knob up until the nickel starts to cut out a little. Turn it back down a bit until the nickel sound out pretty good. That will get you most goodies. You might not find small gold though. You can do that same technique with a small rusty nail, and turn it until the nail doesnt sound off anymore, then dig everything. Does the Lonestar have the Target ID?

no not tomatoes... coins... take a quarter, dime, nickel and penny. And plant them at about 6" down. Let them sit and "grow" for a few weeks. A nice halo will form and you will be ready to "test" and "tune" your detector. Doesn't matter what kinda detector it is... A coin garden will allow you to adjust and fine tune any detector. I also plant a small gold ring in mine. Just so I get to know the sound my detector makes when it goes over gold.

You can also put pop tabs, aluminum foil, etc to see what junk sounds like.

Get you some of those little flags they make to mark bounderies and write on them with a permanent marker what you got buried until you remember where the stuff is at.

Best learning tool there is...
