Hey friends, normally post on 3030 page. I am an avid Avid Minelab guy for years and models. Considering a 305 for my 11 yr old son. He foesnt have a whole lot of interest yet, but thought the 305 would be light enough when he gets a little interest. I would like some opinions on machine... Not expecting a powerhouse, but typical depth, discrim effectiveness, etc would be helpful. Appreciate any comments or suggestions. Have a good holiday!

There is no weight difference between the Xterra models. The 305 is a great entry level machine, but.....
I would step up to either the 505 or even the 705 for their added capability and features. That way, even if he doesn't get bitten by the detecting bug, you would have a great complimenting or back-up machine. And IMO, the 705 is the easiest to use due to it's "Auto" features.

I really enjoy my 705. Look for a used one in good condition. I bought mine here from you of the forum users and it works great.

If it's a recent purchase NIB machine I'd jump on it. If it's used much or older I'd get a hold of Bart at Big Boys Hobbies. He's got a Christmas special deal right now on new 305's for not much more.

Jump on it!! The 305 is just as good as the "Upper" Level X-Terra. If he could handle a 10.5DD MF or HF coil, they will perform just as good ad it's big brothers!!!

Picked up the 305, new in sealed box , $250. I tried to get a little chesper and he wouldnt budge! No biggy! Just gotta get the kids interested now. Happy holidays.
