Help with Token/Coin ID

Hi everyone!

Haven't been able to post lately due to cold weather here in Mass and because I had to have my appendix removed last Monday. Hopefully my health and the weather will cooperate and I'll be back in action in another week or two.

I'm wondering if anyone can help me ID this coin or token that was in a friends father's collection. I've looked everywhere with no luck at all.

It's about the size of a silver dollar, but probably pewter or a nickel alloy of some sort- definitely not silver. On the side with the broken sword and legend, are the words Lauer Nurnberg. I looked this up and it points to a coin/medal manufacturer. On the side with the soldier, at the bottom of the circle are the words Wittig Friesen- again not offering me any help.

Can anyone help direct me as to what this is or where I can find pertinent info??

Thanks and HH all,

Jeff

I don't know what it commemorates but it sounds like something bad.

The side with the soldier says something like "Black Disgrace and Culture Dishonor on the Rhine."

The side with the broken Sword says something like "German Emergency and Disgrace Taler"

Since it looks like the soldier's in the act of committing a war crime the token can't be commemorating anything good.

It looks like the soldier is dressed in a WW1 era French uniform if that's any help.

Good Luck in finding out more
