Help!

I found this in the Union siege lines in Vicksburg where I have been finding various civil war bullets and other relics. It is brass and has a small "clip" bent over on the back side. I can see where another clip used to be on the opposite side of the back object but broke off. It has a plain face on the front. I have seen the exaxt object in a civil war relic display but there was no ID.Hope someone can help..Thanks

It's a decorative stud or 'spot' for leather.
