Hi Jerry,
Welcome to the hobbie. Hope you have many hours of enjoyment! This is one of the most interesting stories I've ever read, regarding the aquiring of a Quattro! - Well, you can't be doing too bad with a computer if you can get on the internet and post your message! - Are you running in auto sensitivity? If so, try the manual sensitivity. You can raise or lower the number reading based on the stability of the machine. This will either increase or decrease your depth range. A few inches can make all the difference in finding those silver coins! The fact that you're picking up coins is good in that even though the ground has built up to a cetain layer, yet the detector can read them. Just think, over time layers build up on a site, the older the site, generally the more build up. In a park though, you have to content with top soil put there and being replenished over time. It deepens the avialability of the targets further. Also what one would class as deep in one area, may not be deep in another area. Ground builds up at different rates in different areas. Maybe one of the other guys on the forum may be able to elaborate further! Do you have Andy Sabisch's book on mastering the quattro? It's better than the manual that goes with the machine. It covers all aspects of the machine's specs. Also covers troubleshooting. Hope I've helped a little!:minelab::)
