I have a situation I need some feedback on. I bought a Metal Detector from someone on the Forums. I sent him a m.o. overnight. It gat redirected and was not delivered for three days.I tried to contact him for a week with no response. Below is the response he sent back yesterday.

hi bill, had to go out of town for work that is why i needed sent overnight. got back and finaly went down to the store to get the mail, envelope was there but nothing in it. i don't know what happened with the whole thing from getting lost to showing up with nothing in it??? but unfortunatley i can no longer go through this. not having the time along with other things. will be busy with work and family for the holiday for the next week so not sure when i can respond back for future questions. thanks tony

Sound like he is hanging me out to dry? Anyone had this happen to them? Five years of trading selling never had this happen.
Thanks for any input.Just so we are square on this his user name is findit and he is out of Florida.

I would cancel the money order immediately. If it hasn't been cashed, you should be able to get your money back. If it has been cashed already get a copy of it and see who signed and cashed the money order and proceed from there. If he cashed it and you have an email saying he didn't he might be guilty of fraud and seems you would have the proof with the email. Good Luck.

IMHO, that is not the response of someone who even wants to help out someone who sent money to them, and is out a lot of money. You need more information such as "was the envelope open?" I find this a very odd response. I'd pursue the cancellation of the money order, but if it's been cashed, I'd pursue every avenue the law will allow. Since cashing a money order requires proper id, most thieves would rather not bother with them. I suppose it could have been genuinely lost in transit, but this is highly unlikely.

Seems like this fellow is indeed scamming you...You have gotten some good info and would follow through, hope its a USPS money order as its a federal offense under these circumstances...Over the last 8 years had some strange things happen but this one is new to me...

the mai can sometimes get lost, but it never arrives with just the envlope and the contents missing . I believe this is a lie, this response would only be necessary if you used some kind of confirmation which I suspect is the case, you know the envlope arrived to him, that cant be disputed , so he claims it was empty , Its a lie , you got jooked and it will be hard to get your money back .......try to trace the Money order, I bet he cashed it ........

A couple things...was this sent with a confirmation..think it would have cost you 50 cents...also the letter/check could have been sent insure...might have cost you a buck or 2.... Find out if it has a tracking number of some type or paper trail... You should right away post this persons info so no one case is taken! Also tell moderators...

Can you stop payment on that money order?? If in fact it is missing
If it were made out to him.and he cashed it Call the Sheriffs department in that county and file a complaint. You may have a good case of theft by deception.
Call the postal authorities also. They do not fool around.Tampering with US mail is a Federal offence....They get remarkable results.

Should have read offense not offence...No edit button sorry

Thanks to all that responded. I went to the bank and they put a stop payment on the m.o. ( as it had not been cashed yet). They refunded the amount of the M.O. (good for me). So, guess it resolved for me.
Note: I have not recieved a reply (several days now) from the guy I had the issue with. Worlds a funny place...
