Henderson / Vegas, Nevada

Hi.
I may have chance to spend a week in Henderson Nevada about 7mi south of Vegas this spring, and I don't know if I would be wasting my time taking my detector.
I would like to look for some gold, but it looks like there is not much in the area. Everything I have found in searches is quite a ways either north, east or west of there.
I will not be able to get very far off the road or very far from the car because of my wife's handy cap.
It just would be nice to be able to say I found some gold.
I don't plan on spending any time in Vegas, I am Vegas-ed out!. Been there done that syndrome.
I will be spending most of my time in Henderson, Nevada.
Also I may be passing threw Rich Hill / Congress, Arizona on my way there.
Any help would be appreciated.

About the only thing there is Minelab USA, might take a short tour if you haven't visited before, call ahead of course. As far as I know the Minelabites leave Henderson to visit the other locales you mentioned in search of Gold. A friendly call to G.M. "Doc" Lousignont owner of http://www.kamakazi.com or post on the Yank-Aussie Prospecting Forum might be helpful.

Go south on US 95 to Searchlight. Mtns to the east have former gold mines throughout. Detect the valleys and gulches. Also, further east of the Mtns, on the slopes toward the Colorado river are historical placer mines, west of Mojave Lake (State
Road 164, Cottonwood Cove Road) recreation site. Good Luck.

Also on this site on the left side just below the quarter with 3 nuggets, look for " The Desktop Prospector" (The second item down) it is downloadable software and it will provide you with a great deal of information including GPS coordinates for a lot of prospecting areas. Remember it is advisable to check out the status of any and all sites listed that you may desire to locate and/or prospect on.
