Well fellow hunters, I finally got around to getting all the finds scanned for your viewing enjoyment. This I believe is the first time I have posted just about all Junk Targets found during my weekend outings and when I mean just about all items, there were around 15-20 Targets that were either too big or could not find due to it either being quite Deep. There was also a Dog Collar that I found not in the pics. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this posting of my finds from these 2 outings. Thanks for viewing.
Saturday, Tim and I headed out once again to bring home a little more Silver and other goodies for our collections.....at least we hoped too. I picked up Tim at around 5am and we headed out. We found out that we had started out just a tad too early because we arrived to our destination and had to wait until it got light enough out to hunt. We hit quite a few spots again and we found a little bit at each site. We ended up doing well in a Parking Lot Area that kinda caught us off guard. What I mean is that it looked tough to dig in but soon found out that it wasn't that hard and that there was only about 6" of Gravel and then it went back to good ole Black Loamy Dirt. Anyways....we almost passed this up since Tim was on one side it in the grassy area and I was on the other side. I wasn't finding anything here in the grassy part and was getting ready to put the XS into the trunk. I started walking across a small area of grass next to the Parking Lot and got a hit. I backed up and it read like a Wheatie. It showed about 4" so I got down and dug a plug. I was right! A Wheatie! I then started working in this small area and started to find a few more Wheats in this grassy area. Tim walks over and asks if I was digging Wheats and I told him yes. I then asked Tim if he had found anything and he replied "a Merc". We then started hunting where the Gravel was and there were Coins everywhere in this. The good thing about this Gravel Lot was that it didn't have many Large Rocks to deal with and seemed to be like Class 5 Road Gravel which I work with a lot and it compacts nicely. When I dug a hole, it filled in nicely and you couldn't hardly tell that you had dug there due to the ground being a bit wet and it being mainly Sand / Gravel Mix. I made sure to pack everything nice an tight in each hole since I didn't want to leave any marks behind and thought I would state this so I don't get any grief but I'm sure I will anyways. Remember people.....this is only Gravel and something you can't hurt. Anyways, Tim started hunting this and he pops out 2 Silver Rosie's. I continued searching and kept digging Wheats. I finally popped out a Silver Rosie and then a War Nickel. We worked this hard for at least an hour or so and we both were surprised at the amount of Wheats here. I'm not sure what the total was for Wheats but I know I had to have dug at least 20+ Wheats along with a Rosie and a War Nickel. Tim ended up doing well and dug a 4 War Nickels, a V-Nickel from 2" Deep, a bunch of Wheats and a few Silver Dimes as well. We then drove around hitting a few more sites but nothing panned out like this site did. We still got a few more keepers but the other sites weren't as loaded as this one was. Tim ended up getting 8 or 9 Silver, bunch of Wheats, the V-Nickel and 5 War Nickels. There could have been other things but do not recall. I got 2 Merc's, 6 Rosie's, a Barber Dime, 1 War Nickel, 49 Wheats (I was really surprised Sunday Morning when I counted them!), 6 Clad Quarters, 12 Clad Dimes, 3 Newer Nickels and 25 New Pennies. I also found a Religious Key Type Pendant which is really cool, I think a Rosette with a Pic of a Horse Head in it, a Rusty Pin, a Cuff-Link, and 2 Keys....one being a Harley Davidson.
Sunday, I decided to go back down to the Ball Diamond where I got the Franklin Half at and all the other Silver. I hunted this for 2 and a half hours without finding 1 single Old Coin. For some reason it seems there is only 1 location in that Diamond that has a lot of Silver and other stuff as well as a Ton of Junk. After not getting anything for that long I decided to head back into the section where I had found the other Silver's at hoping I had left some behind. I started working this and it didn't take me long, maybe 5 minutes to get my first Old Coin. A Silver Rosie. I continued working in a Pattern this area and started doing pretty good. I hunted this area for about 4 hours or so and went to the car to get rid of some clothes due to it getting warmer out. I ditched the Sweater in the car and stopped for a minute to see what I had found for Oldies so far. I pulled them out and didn't realize that I had dug that much Silver. What I had was a Silver Quarter and 7 Silver Dimes. To my amazement.....there were only 3 Wheats dug which really blew my mind! I knew I was popping out Silver like mad but didn't even realize that I had that many already and knew the Wheats were almost non-existent during them 4 hours or so. I still had another 2 hours to hunt or so before I called it quits so I went back to where I left off and started hunting again. By the time I called it quits which was around 5pm, I pulled 4 Silver Coins from this Diamond again and 7 more Wheats. I dug a total of 10 Wheats and 12 Silver from here in about 7 hours or so hunt time. I thought that I had hit it pretty hard and didn't think there would be much left on a return trip but I would soon find out I was wrong on that. That will be in the next post from this past weekend so stay tuned. Clad Coinage found was 15 Quarters, 15 Dimes, 2 Nickels and 21 Pennies. I also got 2 more Keys and a Cub Scouts Pin.
Total Finds were 21 Silver for both days. They included 3 Silver Quarter dated (2)1950-d,1962-d, 1 Barber Dime dated 1900, 3 Mercury Dimes dated 1927,(2)1943, and 14 Silver Roosevelt Dimes dated 1946,1946-d,1950-d,1950-s,1951,(2)1953-d,1957,1957-d,1958-d,1959-d,(2)1961-d, and 1963-d. Only 1 Nickel was found for a keeper and that was a 1942-s Jefferson War Nickel. No Tokens or Indian Heads were found on either day which was somewhat a bummer but maybe next time. I did pull a ton of Wheats though which totalled 59 of them. They are dated 18,(19),19-s,25-d,26,29,(2)29-d,32-d,34,(2)35-d,(2)36,36-d,(2)37,37-d,40-d,(2)41,41-s,(2)44,(5)44-d,44-s,45,45-d,45-s,(4)46-d,(2)46-s,48-d,49,(2)50-d,(3)51-d,(2)52-d,(2)53-d,55-d,(3)57-d and (4)58-d. Misc. Items included 4 Keys (one being a Harley Davidson Key and one being a type of Religious Pendant), a Rosette with a Horse Head Figure inside the Glass Center, a Cub Scouts Pin, a Rusty Pin that reads Another Concord Product in a Circle on the back I think???, and a Cuff-link. Total for Clad Coins were 21 Quarters, 27 Dimes, 5 Nickels and 46 Pennies. Hope you enjoyed the finds and the short story as well. Also.......please enjoy all that Trash I dug as well!
Like they say......"from Trash to Treasure!"
