When questioned, old timers will tell you they never saw or heard of acne. Acne started becoming a problem after World War II.

Before the World War II, all soap was natural, made of lard, lye, and water.

During the war, shortages of almost everything, including soap, led chemists to develop chemical soap substituting lard with tallow or chemical detergents.
