Heres something to try with your F5....

Did some experimenting with the pinpoint of the F5 and as gold rings weigh much more than junk that mimics them believe this accounts for audio variances.

Certainly no way to tell for sure unless you dig but feel this can cut down the odds and surely a key or lead sinker or large ball of foil will fool you as they weigh as much as the gold ring.

Heres the drill get yourself some foil and a thin gold ring..round tab and a medium gold ring...square tab and a large gold ring.

Depress the pinpoint button and swing over one versus the other with a moderate swing from side to side and the gold ring will hold the tone longer waaah-waaah versus bip-bip with the trash and of course the larger the ring and square tab will be more evident the difference will be.

Works better on shallow targets and not as well with deeper targets...try it and see what you think..perhaps years of detecting and experimenting give me a trained ear but would like to hear some input on those that try this drill. Especially Mike Hillis who is our resident F-5 Guru.

If you try and see a difference you have cut down the odds and if you don't have a prayer what I am talking about nothing ventured nothing gained..

I guess you are using d1 or d2. The machine is awesome. I only relic hunt so I do not use the 3 or 4 tones. I hunt in orange spotty and Stafford VA and the machine does well with mineralization. I also have the newer GB. Which does well. Sometime I take both and compare side by side and the GB might hold a slight bit tighter Vid and depth is very close. I do prefer the 11dd coil to the 10 concentric but I am hunting old house sites and cw sites.

Have a God given talent or years of detecting and experimenting have helped my hearing interpetation judging by the lack of come backs.

Having found a similiar audio variance on older Tesoro's and posting got a similiar response which further makes me believe the aforementioned.

I realize checking targets can be quite a task but digging junk can break your back and with a VDI reading to go along with the audio variance F5 is superior to other like units with no VDI reading..

Whoops one fellow mentioned I would wear out the pinpoint button...not a problem still have 4 years and 7-8 months left on my 5 year warranty...
