Dig those pennies! Yah, I know, they are a waste of time, worth almost nothing :(. Why bother? Well, most silver and some gold rings read where the penny reads. There is no setting on ANY detector specifically for rings. You got to dig a lot of targets. If you want to cherry pick just the higher or lower conductive targets, go ahead. But you will leave the better finds for people who will go the extra mile and dig all penny signals. And I got paid over $50.00 to do just that in pennies, just so I could find lots of rings. And you know what? It really works. :) And having a detector which can size a target even increases your chances of getting rings also.

I spent some time after work this week rolling my pennies. I got to 99 rolls so far, and figure I have another 2-3 rolls of those cheap one cent rolls left to make.

says a lot for those guys who say they never dig pennies,,,,do you find a lot of your rings under pull tabs aswell

Roger

Majority of my Gold and Plat. jewellery is in the pull tab ranges.
Anywhere between 5 to 50c coins.

Some, but rings often give a softer sound equal in all 4 directions, whereas pulltabs don't always do that. The old round beaver-tail pull tabs often sound more like rings then the square ones.

Our ground is officially frozen now. Happened practically overnight. For the past two days I've been sorting out my coins and have my final 2009 totals. I found 4770 one cent coins and 246 wheat cents. (Note: I frequently call one cent coins pennies as does everybody else but neither the US nor Canada actually mints pennies." I'll do the rings later but I'm guessing around 75-100. I know its 4 gold, 30 something silver, and I have to believe at least 50-60 junkers.

I know you convert your "pennies" to gold. I convert mine to silver US coins. )Another homage.) In three years this system has netted me 24 90% silver coins. Well worth the effort in my book.

I'll add my agreement to your statement. You WILL regret not digging one cent signals. If you skip them one day go back later day and get them.

Chris

My last coin of 2009 was poorly planned and turned out to be a "penny!"

Thanks for the tip.. This Newbie will use it

Right-O John, been doin that for years, and usually run about 20 rings a year, plus or minus, and every time i get around 10 or 12 pounds of pennies I roll em and head for the bank, I ain't proud, I'll dig just bout everthing:garrett::detecting::garrett:

Yeah if you want rings you can't leave anything behind no matter what it reads. Rings, depending on size, configuration, composition, type of metal, position in the ground, will read all over the scale. There is no set place for rings. People are always asking how to set their detector up to find rings. Turn it on and scan.

Yeah the old beaver tails fool a lot of beeper swingers. One would think they would have all been found by now but millions were tossed aside over tye years they were used.

Bill

119 rings, just in 2009. Amazing.

John, Mr. Garrett should be paying you commission, you are the man!

Congrats on the quantity of rings that you found John !!
