HEY ATPro Guys!!

I asked on the Etrac forum about what detector I should get for my fiance and the AT Pro came up. From what I have read, you guys using them, really like them. It does sound like a great detector and I am really leaning in that direction. I am going to Windy City Detectors this morning to look at machines and talk to the owner, Ron Shore, who is first class in my book, about the AT Pro. What can you guys tell me about it to make me sure of my decision? This is for a woman who has never MDed before but loves to see all the goodies I bring home. Thanks in advance for any replies!

Hello, I think it is a wise move. This great machine is very easy to start using, someone a newbie in this topic, as I was two years ago, can begin to discover things from the first contact so that learning will be very entertaining use. Meet the machine thoroughly will take a little time, practice and make a few holes but ... that's the point, right?
a greeting

If she's never detected the first thing that I think of is the 5x8" coil would give it better balance and make it easier to start popping targets up her first time out. It's an excellent coil. Also
the contrast between the two audio modes will help her get coins from the start. Experienced users like the pro audio for its descriptive nuances. The standard mode goes "ding" over coins and that standard audio would get her started for now. It's an easy detector to learn how the features relate to finding the good stuff. Keep it simple for several hunts. if she bites the pro mode, iron audio and relic hunting ability will keep things fresh. The ATPro hunts in all weather and I bet if you take it for a test drive that you'll start thinking of working your sites with the ATP & Etrac for the fun of it.
Good luck bringing her into the hobby / sport / obsession :beers:!

Thanks Bruce! I am excited that she wants to get involved. I spend quite a bit of time roaming with my detector when we arent out on the Harley tear-assing around the countryside and I sometimes feel like I am neglecting her.I am sure most of you guys know what I am talking about. I have been watching videos on the At and I think that it will be my choice. I bought my son an Ace 350 and he loves it so I have confidence in Garrett machines already. I think getting mama involved is going to open up the doors for weekends away hunting and the " terrible" guilt I feel when I get lost in the woods digging relics:cool:

I think that you'd be hard pressed to find an easier or more fun machine to 'turn on and go', yet the ATs offer enough performance and control that she won't outgrow it, even if she gets hooked. I agree with Bruce re: the 5x8 coil - love it for picking treasures out from amongst the trash!
Merry Christmas!

Very similar here, I often spend long hours in the woods. Together we spend many long days on the motorcycle exploring the countryside and new places to eat and shop in small towns. When we are at the ocean or a lake she knows I'm not content until I've been in the swimming area trying to score. She also to tries an secure permission from her friends for me to detect their older properties. Fortunatley she also has her passions - ceramics (she's a potter), art and bellydancing so things balance well and I take interest in her activities. Currently I keep a Whites Coinmaster Pro and IDX Pro for her to dabble with if she desires. If you can pack the ATPro for a bike ride it makes an ideal adventure unit for checking / sampling spots that look good. The ATP is the first Garrett detector that is a good fit for my needs.

But Seriously.......check out the finds on the links below. Many of these were found by newbies also!

Thanks for the input guys. I went ahead and ordered the AT Pro from Kellyco yesterday. In fact I ordered two of them! Kellyco called me to confirm I infact wanted two and that my order was not a mistake. I cancelled one of them. I am really looking forward to having a partner to MD with. I bought an ACE350 for my 20 year old son but he is too busy chasing tail and partying to want to go much. I have done alot of research since the weather turned bad and I am confident that this spring will be a lot of fun. I have a line on an old town that is south of me about an hour that all of the old buildings are still there. The buildings were bought up as part of a farm and my best friend and his hunting buddy actually hunt there. Just waiting for permission:yikes:

[size=large]if ya decide to get another one, do yourself a favor and buy from the best dealer in the country. Big Boys Hobbies. i shopped all over before i bought mine and he gave me the best prices on my detector and pin pointer and an Ace 250 set up for my brother as a start-up set. in all my research nobody could or would beat his prices.too late for the one you ordered but remember this if ya get a second one.

You got one eh? I am interested in your feedback...Ytcoinshooter should be a hell of a resource for you if you have questions...he has a lot of Minelab time as well as with the Pro, from the looks of it, it would be a good party to be at someday!
