Hey Bryce

Went on a weekend hunt with a group of detectorists from another web page. I was using your program and found a 1917 Merc at 8 to 9 inches and a musket ball at 8 inches. I guess that puts to rest doubts about using Semi Auto mode for finding deep silver. There was a memorial about 5 inches deep but the SE picked up the dime below it. The funny thing was there were many detectors swept over the same ground ahead of me including Minelab E-Tracs. Goes to prove no place is completely devoid of good finds. Thanks to your program I can hunt with confidence. My dime is on another post on this web page.

find many more deepies like that merc...and musketball.

I appreciate you letting me know that the settings did you some good.

Take care and good luck on your next hunt.

where can I find where you posted your program ? I got my first Minelab Explorer this week and am tring to figure it out. Also, this is my first post on what seems to be one of my new favorite forums :wiggle: ...is there a place on here where people have posted the programs that they use or what ?

Hi friend...and welcome to the forum

here is exactly how I have my SE set up.

Conductive sounds
Gain-10
variability-10
Limits-10
Max limits-10
Fast-Off
Deep-Off
Sensitivity-Semi auto 26
Iron mask-22 ...IMPORTANT....the iron mask setting of 22 on the SE is the same as 6 on the explorer2
Smartfind screen: I just feel like the cursor provides a lot of very useful info.

The 3 keys for me which make these settings effective for deep park silver at "hunted out" sites are the following...
1) high gain which allows deep silver chirps to be heard
2) Semi auto sensitivity at 26 which makes the SE very stable while still running the high gain setting I prefer. Because of this..the SE has no problems hitting 8" to 10" coins.
3) Iron mask set at 22......6 on the Explorer2.... this is a precise setting for me that I never vary from. 1 seting higher....and deep iron starts to mimick deep silver hits...hence some falsing. Also at this -22 setting... I have no problems hitting the same 8" to 10" deep coins even while the SE may be nulling....which is very important.

Hi Bryce,

I'm interested in your settings but have a few questions. I recently got my Explorer SE Pro and now have only about 12 hours on it. I'm actually fairly comfortable with the tones because my other machine is a X-Terra 70 which I usually used 99 tones. So far among other things I'm very happy with how the Explorer doesn't make rusty bottle caps sound too good......unlike the X-70 which has a love affair with those crown caps.

Anyways, am I right that you detect with the above settings and in IM mode -22....not smart screen?
If I was to reject the same amount of screen on the smart find screen as the -22 IM setting, IM off, would the detector act exactly the same?
And....why Deep off?

Thanks Bryce.....you have made learning the ML Exp. much more fun.

Dave

the smartfind screen provides so much useful information I need after hearing a sound I'm listening for on my SE.

Once you get the iron mask set on the SE...all you need to do is hit the detect button. You are now hunting in smartfind screen with the iton mask at 22.

I like deep off after a gazillion hours trying both ways. For me...in my soil....Deep off just sounds so much more crisp over deep targets.
I already have my gain set at 10 anyway...so if there's a deepie there....I'll hear it.

The combo of fast and deep BOTH off increased my finds tremendously in some heavily hunted parks.

awesome Bryce, thanks a ton for the info and the welcome. I'll be sure to post when I can and keep everyone updated with finds and answer what I can. I'm sure I'll have quite a bit of questions too. anyhow, thanks again!!!

also, wouldn't the settings on the "XS" be more comparable to the Explorer 2 ? I'm just having a time trying to figure out this detector, but I haven't really played with it too much either.
