Hey Guys...Metal Detector question....What would you do?

Hi Everyone. Thanks for looking at my post. I may have the opportunity to purchase an older Minelab Excalibur with the seasearch coil for about $500 and what I wanted to know is do you guys think that is a fair price for an older (12+ years) detector and also how does the older minelab work in comparison to the newer machine (I currently have a minelab II 1000). I am wondering whether I would be better off to save my money and purchase a newer excal (maybe a blue 1000) or even buy a new SOV as a backup wet sand. This machine will be primarily used by Jess and also serve as a backup for me. I look forward to your thoughts and opinions....Thanks!

Dig, I'm not positive but you might want to check into this. I think this may be a unit that MInelab will no longer repair. --Jerry

Dig, I own an Excal NY(1994-1996). It is an interesting unit, but I have not hunted it enough to draw any concrete conclusions. I HAVE seen SOME performance items that exceed the blue tubers. I would buy it, Jess is going to SPANK YO HINEY!
As you can see Minelab has changed their staunch position in regard to their older models. Hope this helps your decision.
