Hey Minelab! The Explorer needs the GT treatment!

Correct, the Explorer loses depth in pinpoint mode (which find completely useless except when using my X1 probe) but I wouldn't worry about the DFX getting a strong signal on the deep quarter, Ed and I hunted side by side for over a year his DFX against my Explorer and I remember two key targets one day that prompted him to buy an Explorer.
At park A (former farm) I had a solid large cent hit, the DFX said iron...target was a large cent 11 inches deep under a huge field stone. Second target at park B, I had a solid silver quarter hit, DFX said iron, target was standing liberty quarter an easy 12 inches down.
Over that year plus period I routinely whooped his DFX from one end of town to the other and I was a newb at detecting then. Big difference between air tests and targets in the ground with iron and trash around.

I think it is important to move the coil away from the target before hitting the Pinpoint button. I generally raise the coil a foot or so off the ground before hitting the Pinpoint button.
The pinpointing procedure is a highly personal preference area. I do not think that very many hunters actually use the Pinpoint mode, but I really like it and use it for 95% of the targets. I find that the 5 extra seconds taken in accurate pinpointing really pays off in that I dig very few plugs that that do not have the target in them.
HH,
Glenn
