I took your advice and emailed the Army Quartermaster museum to try and get some info on the Quartermaster ring I posted here a few days ago. Here is the response I received today...
Daer Mr.Pyatt, It sounds like you have what is known and collected as sweetheart jewelry. Rings with our branch insignia are fairly common as you could but them at the PX Store or at a local jewelry store. We still use the 1896 eagle for our insignia, however, if the eagle's head is below the wings it is WWII or earlier. On our website, the insignia with eagles head above the wings was desgned in the 1920's but the old insignia continued to be worn and made by jewelers through 1945. In most of the collectible guides there are dozens of designs with all the brach insignia, Arms of the US, Wings etc. They were generally worn as identifiers and grduation type items. In most of the catalogs we get they go for $25.00-50.00 for silver ones,by collectors od WWII jewelry. I hope this will help. Sincerely, Luther Hnson QM Museum
Thanks again Steve for another mystery solved!
