-I know a lot of wives hunt too. Do you out-hunt your hubby and he won't let you post?

-What are your favorite types of targets you hunt for?

-Ever met a detector guy you didn't like?

-What kind of machine do you swing?

-Any good search ideas from a "women's" prospective?

-Does your husband get angry when you hunt for extended periods, and he has to cook supper?

-Is metal detecting more of a "MAN'S" sport :punch:

Hey!!!How did you get a picture of my wife.?..Not a problem ,That picture is at least 30 years old:lol:

Hey Fellows, This is Michele Maher "Jewelry girl" I live in Smithville, Tx. I would metal detect everyday if I could!!!
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=10121422&op=1&view=all&subj=1615158858&id=616975636#

Here is a link to my Face Book page of a photo of me metal detecting last weekend in Lake Charles, Louisiana. In the Photo I am using my Minelab Explorer SE. I also use many of the Garrett detectors too!! I used my trusty Garrett Ace 250 that same day too. I also use the Garrett Sea hunter Mark II when I do beach hunting. I am planning a beach hunt soon over the holidays. CAN'T WAIT!!! A friend of mine is going with me to Galveston. We are planning on going to Galveston the day after Christmas. Her husband bought her a Ace 250 for Christmas and we are going to go break it in on Sat. at an old house at the edge of town.

When I first got into this hobby about 10 years ago...yes,it was mostly men in the hobby. My husband does NOT detect. However, he digs for me sometimes when he isn't busy watching the kids for me so I can go hunting. I just started a metal detecting club here in Smithville and we had our second meeting Mon. night. What surprised me the most was that a majority of the people in the club so far are Females! So far we have about 4men in the club and the rest are all women about 9 of us. Most of them new to the hobby.

Your question of does my husband get angry when I hunt for extended periods of time? I think he gets frustrated sometimes because I would much rather be out detecting than cooking supper. "I don't like to cook anyway" But he is a good sport and lets me get it out of my system.

As for my favorite types of targets to hunt. I love jewelry hunting on the beach!!!! I also love coin shooting!!! I like finding those deep silvers!! So old homesteads are another one of my favorite places to hunt! I want to go and hunt on one of the metal detecting tours in England so bad!!! So that is one of my dreams. I hope it comes true in the near future!

Here is another link to a photo of me and my friend Becky detecting last weekend. I bought her a Garrett Ace 150 for Christmas one year and I think she has only used it about 4 times.

Hope the link works!!
Happy Hunting!

I forgot to answer a one of the questions that John asked.

Have a ever met a detector guy I didn't like?

I must say that all serious Hobbyist are a "unique" breed of people! Sometimes I think people probably think some of us are a little CRAZY...who else would go detect in the freezing weather when it is raining or snowing...digging around in that cold or muddy dirt for a few coins or some jewelry or relics? ( I have!) I know lots of you have too! But, as for a "GUY" that detects. When I lived in Galveston and did lots of beach hunting there was this one guy that wouldn't dispose of his trash or cover any holes!!! I could always tell when he had been there before me there would be a huge hole and a pull tab or an aluminum can or some other trash laying there by a huge hole! Now I can under stand if the hole is by the edge of the water and the tide is starting to fill the hole but he would leave these holes everywhere!! That one "GUY" I didn't care for very much. But, I am sure he was a pretty decent fellow because he was a very avid Hobbyist and I saw him very often on the beach.

As for your other question "Is metal detecting more of a MAN's sport?" I do think that it doesn't appeal to most women because it does involve getting your hands dirty and a little manual labor sometimes digging those deeeep targets. Some how I have managed to keep long nails while detecting at least once a week and without gloves too. I mainly wear gloves in the winter just to keep my hands warm not to keep the dirt from getting under them. Although, I have to admit that I can't stand the feel of the dirt under my nails. But I don't mind getting dirty!! Also, I used to squirm when having to put a worm on a hook when fishing. Now I end up digging worms all the time when metal detecting and it doesn't faze me anymore.

Sorry post is so long. I hope you enjoy reading from a womens perspective!

That is strange! ( LUECKE) Not sure exactly where that is. Looks like it might be on some farm land out the other side of the State Park closer to Bastrop. Looks like I am going to have to do some research. Thanks for telling me about it! I will let you know what I find out.

Found out what the LUCKE is from a friend from our metal detecting club. It is the last name of the people that own the property and is spelled out with TREES.

Anyway...thought that was pretty coo! Learn something new everyday!

Jewelry girl:: You are a beautiful girl.:inlove: If you was mine there would be no need to cook. It would be fast food or the corner diner. Could pay for this with dirty quarters daily.
I had a GF that tried to detect with me once. She was interested in it ,but had a real problem digging. I tried to help her but the ground is hard in MI most of the time it seems. She didnt weigh 130 lbs soakin wet.
Now,I wish I would have bought her a digger she could push with her foot, I didnt think of it then.

Hmmmmm,,, A detecting club with, 9 woman and 4 men ??? How do I join???

In over 5 years of detecting I have only come across 2 woman ,That I can think of, while out detecting.

Can I join the club?-----------> :cheekkiss: <-----------Yes you can Flash.

From the land of the Bluenose......Seive Queen will be at it once we go south this winter. Marie loves the water digs but won't touch dry land. Her leg is mending nicely.

Okay I am 50 years old and this is really my first year hunting, I am totally addicted. I started doing it almost everyday after my son died, (therapy) when I could. I have found that I love hunting. This year I have found over 6000 coins, of course most were pennies. About 8 gold rings, and lots of silver items. One thing I learned is that I want to keep better records of what I find and from where. I have lots of cars that my husbands say belongs to him now.
My other son thinks that I am out of control with my hunting, but he also knows that is helps me. Plus I am going to give all the clad coins I find (in coin form) to my younger set of grandkids. So he should really think I'm crazy as he is hauling out the coins.

I don't mind digging in the dirt, but I don't like to dig deep. 6 inches is deep enough for me. I don't like bugs or cutting worms in half :surprised:. But it doesn't stop me.
I only met one guy that I didn't really care how he talked to me, but other than that, most are nice. I have not ran into another woman yet.

The picture is with my late son Randy and I. He was 6'5" And I am 5'3. So I had to stand up a stair so that we could be kind of even. :)

Be careful Flash, they're may be some farmer's daughters in the club! :inlove:

That's one of Jimmy Lueke's (pronounced "leaky") places. He's a rancher from over Giddings way. He has farms and ranches all over the area. My secretary's ex-husband helped bulldoze that out.

Sorry to hear of your loss and it sounds like you've found a good way to relieve some of your grief by getting out and enjoying something in the outdoors. That's way better than some of the alternatives I can think of. Keep at it, I'm sure your son would have wanted you to continue to love and live life to the fullest any way that makes you happy. BTW, great totals, impressive. And as far as the worms, when you cut one in half, you just made 2 worms!! Both halves will heal and go on about their worm business.
