HF coil comparison

Well-known member
Both the round and the elliptical are out on the market now.
Has anyone seen a comparison of the two or even a comparison with the 3.2 coils?

I have both the HF 9" and regular 9" coil, the differences are extra sensitivity with the HF coil using 54 kHz. Slightly loss of depth on regular coin size object's but only slightly, but with smaller thinner/worn silver coins the HF coil using 54 khz is deeper. And, great separation in older areas laced with iron with the HF coil. The only way to see the differences with separation, the site needs to have extremely high levels of iron that is were the 9" HF coil with 54 kHz has an edge over the older 9" coil.

Wasn't aware the elliptical was out, but I plan on getting one because I feel the even higher kHz and the elliptical shape will have even better separation over the 9" HF coil. Will probably loose depth with the elliptical but gain it back in area's masked by iron or trash, Looking forward to the elliptical.

The Elliptical coil is not available at the moment guys.

I do a lot of cellar holes and around old homes and sometimes the amount of iron objects in the ground causes me great problem. I have to lower sens, usually lower tx, raise disc to 10 and with full tones I still get lots of high chirps from the iron that cause me to have trouble hearing the good tones. I wonder if the 9" HF would help with that? I wish you were closer so that I could try it in some of those troublesome yards but I hate to spend that kind of cash and find out it doesn't help that much. Have you done cellar holes and old farm yards with both to be able to tell me that the HF works better enough to warrant that kind of cash-ola?
thanks

Hello Marty,

I've not used the HF coil in a cellar hole, but have hunted farm home stress full of iron. That's were I'm seeing an advantage with the 9" HF coil, better separation and using minus discrimination. Your settings don't sound right, you should be able to use less discrimination to hear both iron and conductive no matter the amount of iron. Maybe it's the tones you're using?

I think the problem lies elsewhere with iron sounding off even with 10 discrimination, hope you figure it out just doesn't sound right.

Please keep us posted,
Paul,

I've seen advertised to roll out in early July from another place
