HF Eliptical coil

Hi! Bought the new HF elliptical coil to enhance my gold jewelry finds. Found out that the numbers are not standardized with the new coil like in the 3.0 update. All the numbers are grouped at high end. Tested gold rings read in the high 90's. In fact all my finds with exception of some foil & pull tabs read in high 90's. I hunted in Deus Fast in 5 tones. Seemed like all the tones except foil were high pitched like quarters. Any suggestions on how to discriminate otherwise I will basically have almost a pulse machine. I am very impressed with sensitivity & clear sharp signals & an incredible pinpointing feature. Not complaining just trying to figure out how to shorten the learning curve. Thanks for your responses in advance.

I hunted with mine today and didn't have that problem I was using full tones and the numbers seemed to move according to conductivity of targets located will have to pay more attention to that next hunt and see what happens. I have id norm turned out on my unit . Is your id norm off or on?

just got mine today. only used a short time. am also wondering about TID's too. as soon as i can i will do some samples to see what happens.

Same problem I have, Lost the Norm On/Off feature with the 4.0 update using the HF coils. But norm On/Off feature is still there with the original 9" coil.

I'm more of a relic hunter but would like to have the norm on/off feature for gold jewelry hunting as well, and would be nice to tell quarters from dimes if I was to use 74 kHz.

At 74 kHz, dimes and quarters ID the same. 14 kHz is better with a three point spread between dime and quarter, but then it's loosing it's edge for micro jewelry.

Maybe I'm not seeing it, Probably there but I'm not seeing it :)

its not there and this sounds disappointing and was something I was worried about how it would ID with no norm, oh dear anyway mine isn't here yet so will wait and see what happens..but if its just a mess at the end of the disc I will be disappointed .

I am using the HF 9 inch round coil and there is No ID norm with HF coil. When using higher frequencies the TIDs for coins are all very high with very little separation. Using 14 kHz they are closer to "normal", which seems to make sence. I read somewhere that version 4.1 may include ID norm for the HF coils. Anyone know for sure if this is true? Would normalizing it lmpact the sensitivity and depth?

I am also having trouble with the detector finding the coil when I shut off the pin pointer. Sometimes I will not get any sound and I need to turn on the pin pointer and turn it off again to get the coil to be recognized and to get the sound to return to the headphones. Sometimes it takes about 20 seconds to reconnect. The controller actually says no coil sometimes. The batteries are fully charged, not sure what the cause is. Maybe this will be addressed with V4.1?

I think some of the issues we are having will be resolved, patience and eventually all will be fixed.

14 kHz works great for coin shooting, ID is good.

Here's a tip with those using a 74 kHz for general use, be careful with notching especially high conductive up in the high nighties. Quarters fall at 97 halfs even higher, I know some users notch out this area to avoid rusted tin which is fine when using lower frequencies. Until XP fixes this if they do, avoid notching high conductive area.

Enjoy the HF coil, it's very sensitivity and separation is terrific.

just charging mine for a test drive round 9" HF its the 30 kHz that interests me but testing soon will let me know.

mmmmmm even zinc's are in the mid 90's at 56 kHz not so good well not good at all hope V 4.1 fixes this "issue" or better they see it as one. hope they can normalize to 14 kHz .

Don't think I would have the patience using the two higher frequencies for general coin shooting (other than for specialising on micro jewellery), would drive me nuts on foil and aluminum in your typical park setting, not to mention a distinct disadvantage on depth compared to other more favourable coin frequencies. The only sites I currently use the two higher frequencies on are real iron infested areas, and even then I am only digging anything resembling a non-ferrous target due to the inherent issues of iron playing havoc with both the tones and TID's. Afterall they were really designed with prospecting in mind, not coin shooting.

Whether they can normalise down to 14kHz vs normalising up to 18kHz on the older coils, not sure. If it can be done, you would think it would have already been added to the HF coils.

The issue of the HF coil dropping out on changeover from the Mi-6 seems to be pretty well documented now (including for me), Andy Sabisch did indicate that a fix might be on the way with the next update.

yes its true they may not be able to normalize to 14 kHz but it would be nice if they could at least then we would be able to turn it on or off, but if not its just a new thing to learn and great for low conductor hunting with that expanded low range not so good for silver, so time and testing will tell how the HF coils do in modern trash.

so out for some testing

There is no ID NORM option on the HF coil . .. you may have it turned off on the LF coil(s) but that option is not there on V4.0 and the HF coils . . . . might want to check your ID numbers.

By the design of the coils, ID NORM is not an option with V4.0 and it does push TIDs to the high end of the scale with the 2 upper frequencies

Thanks Andy! I feel a lot better knowing that it's not me or a glitch in the coil. I have been out recently & I am pretty much digging everything but I am also learning from listening. I thought it might give me a huge edge finding more gold with the high frequency & still might as time goes on as I learn what it's telling me. Hope to find some gold chains I might have missed in the past.

Think about it guys, a zinc is going to ring in the 90's at such high kHz. This coil was made for the low conducting and small targets where a higher freq works best. I don't think I would want ID Norm on the HF coils since it's going to norm them out to 18kHz

I just found my 1st gold ring with the elliptical coil at 31khz. Got a clear clean signal on a tiny 1.3 gram 14 kt. yellow gold ring. I'm starting to get the hang of the new coil. It's very sensitive, but I'm still digging a ton of assorted pulltabs. They read anywhere for 79-95. But I would rather dig them than miss some gold.
