HH pi VS. HH diver

Have a land/beach machine but now also need a little advice choosing a marine diving machine. I like the option of the goldquest coil for the PI but I may also use the machine for freshwater diving. The Diver vlf seems more versatile and discriminates but then most of the divers and beach hunters on this forum are using the PI. I dont mind digging alot.

I guess I am a little out there. A Goldquest SS coil cost $250. + the labor to change it over, and the need to re-set the electronics of the Headhunter PI. What would be the purpose of the coil change, or should I say, what would one expect to gain from such ??
Certainly PI detectors are used successfully in fresh water hunting, but one need

Yes, I guese so because here is your own response to others who like to put the 11" goldquest coil on the headhunter.
"Hi Paul
Using the Goldquest SS coil on the Headhunter PI should be almost a direct install. Although it wouldn

Unfortunately the post is out of context a bit. What your not aware of is I had been in contact with Paul a few times before I made that post. It was really addressed to him more than the general forum. My fault I should have made it more clear.
Like I said to Paul, it still should be looked at on the scope.
As far as what detector ?? I would have both. One does not replace the other. The PI and a VLF would complement each other. Just a different tool to do a job. Would you choose one screwdriver to do all jobs with ?? The same holds for detectors.
I hate to tell you this, but perhaps you need to use a Infinium then report back on it

Okay, what if you already had a Minelab super detector and wanted a backup for coastal areas and occasional deep streams? I am sure the streams are fairly trash free but the coast lines are probably full of Iron. I am mostly interested in finding gold rings and silver coins.
Also, Since you have experience with the Infinium I can't resist asking you how it compares with the headhunters?
Thank you

I feel like I'm spinning my wheels here a bit. Your asking for yes/no anwsers to questions that can't be answered that easy.
Phone me at the shop, and I'll be glad to converse with you about this. 508/457-4805
I'm not always there, but I try to be around the phone Sat. Sun.

Hello Charlie,
Bills trying to save you a few $$$ Nothing wrong with using a VLF for fresh water hunting since it notches out iron and other small trash. Pi's work well in fresh water but respond to more trash. I use a Whites waterproof VLF for fresh water hunting and would rather use the Headhunter diver because it responds to deep dimes better than my Whites.
Mr. Bill has been in touch with me the past several months helping me understand more on how Pi units operate, Some of the modifications and things I've done I would not recommend to others and still more modifications are needed on my HH pi to get the unit to respond to smaller size conductors with the GQ 10 usecond coil.. Some mods work and some don't but for the most part I lucked out with the HH Pi modifications, The GQ coil does work well with the HH pi as well as Reg. Sniff's 11" DD coil and Mr. Bill is right "I need to hook up the HH pi circuit board to a scope" to get a better reading on how the circuit board reacts with the 10 usecond coils and most likely will need to still change the electronics as Mr. Bill said..
Just acquired a scope from Scott and will see what the boards showing once I figure out how to use the scope Even though the HH Pi operates well with the Eric's 10 usecond coils the electronics still need to be re-set to capture the full performance of this coil, I noticed a big difference with Eric's GQ 10 usecond coil on the HH pi and know it can do even better once I change the electronics set-up with the help of Mr. Bill and if the two of us can find the time to break away from our daily duties.
P.S. Thanks Eric for going the extra mile with building me two special coils and Mr. Bill for the lessons over the phone, Can't wait until they arrive
My tooth is killing me! Good night and good hunting

Thanks Paul
I was realy originally debating between the HH diver and cz20 because of their waterproofness and great battery life but then I started reading all the good views on the HH Pulse and said hmmm maybe I need another pulse. I realy like the low profile of the HH's but am probably going to get a cz20 as my second detector mostly because of its dependibility and long battery life which I need for areas with out power sources or automobile access.

Yes, The cz20 does have a longer battery life and is a good machine, Good luck with your hunting and hope your pouch runs full with golden nuggets

Hi Paul
I did not know that the cz20 was good on gold nuggets to! If so then I am even more apt to purchase one. In case you were just joshen then do you know of any waterproof detectors that are good on nuggets and have a similarly long battery life?
If not, then maybe you and your colleauges Mr. bill and Jeff K. could put your heads together and come up with something. maybe like a waterproof MXT, goldbugII or explorer.
Or how about just moddifying one of those pvc dry bags or a giant ewa camera bag to fit our favorite detectors? Do you think that the coil couls penetrate the pvc though?

Charlie,
Should have said pouch of silver coins. Sounds like your familiar with names from California, zip me an e-mail and we'll hook up.
