returning home was a different story! Everything was okay and turned the A/C off and the furnace on to 68 degrees which should keep it warm enough so the pipes won't freeze. Took cots and sleeping bags and spent Sat night in my newer home but didn't get much sleep as we aren't used to sleeping on narrow cots! Turning over wasn't pleasant and getting up and down was almost too hard to do but we each had a folding chair to use to help us get up! My legs are too weak to get up and down easily any more.....have to have help with something to hold onto!

Well, Sunday, we checked out the house and yard and all was fine but grass needs mowing but not too bad, as yet! We met the neighbor who lives across the street and her son and daughter-in-law, who were visiting with their little girl....a cutie! Nice neighbor and and nice area....many flowers and very nice homes! Some are two story in another area they are building! Heard the train whistles and boxcars rumbling on the tracks but will be having my oxygen to keep the noise down and hopefully get used to the trains which aren't really close, but close enough to hear them!

We left and stopped at Hardee's in Sullivan, Mo to eat and was about 1:30 pm and after eating, we started home about 2:00 pm and took I-44 North towards St. Louis but alas we soon ran into a loooooooooooooog traffic jam and the two lanes were bumper to bumper...stopping and staring which made us to only travel 10 miles in two hours or more! We finally came to an exit ramp, where the State Patrol and Police cars were guiding traffic to the outer road where we travelled a little faster until coming to a traffic jam when the cars were trying to enter the overpass, stopping and starting again! We got to the overpass to the other outroad on the other side of I-44 and again the traffic was stopped, for they were waving cars going south from the up ramp and onto the outer road going other directions, then another ramp going south on outer road and then we got to go down the ramp to go up to the overpass and crossing over to the I-44 side going N again! Before we did all of this, there were cars and trucks backed up for miles between the ext ramps and couldn't go anywhere, some people were on the grassy strip sleeping, talking, walking around, walking their dogs, so don't know how long they were there waiting. The police, ambulances and fire trucks were using the sides, the lane going the wrong way and getting to the accident which we saw after on the outer road. There was a large trialer that had been on fire with 3/4 of it burned with a large burned out hole in the side! Don't think the cab was burned any but couldn't really tell!

Well, we got north of the burned truck and all the traffic still waiting to get moving and travelling at the correct speed, we saw a traffic jam on the other side which was headed south but couldn't move either because of a three or four car accident with wreckers hauling the cars away. I had told Cliff that there is always something to be thankful for and that was that we weren't in the backed up traffic where they couldn't exit anywhere and that we weren't now headed south on the other side! Don't know how long that jam was but it was loooooooog also! The police, patrol and fire companies were sure busy Sunday afternoon and I imagine they don't want onother one like it for a long time! I have to say both sides of I-44 were a mess and blocked for miles both ways!

I had cramps in my foot by having to step on the brake and then the gas pedal (was able to coast now and then) until I prayed and asked for help and then I turned my foot towards the driver's door to rest it while braking and then I pointed my foot towards the passenger's door to ease the pain and rest it while giving the car gas. Then my leg by my hip was cramping and after rubbing and praying the pain and cramp left it, also! Well, then Cliff's upper leg and knee was cramping really bad and he was rubbing and rubbing his leg and knee and couldn't hardly get his leg stretched out enough to get his cramp and pain to leave, but I was praying for him and his stopped and we made it back home at about 5:00 pm, so when it should only be less than an hour and a half, it took 5 hours or more to get home and, boy, we were both so tired we could hardly walk or see!

And yet, with all the jams, Praise God and Thank You, Jesus, for helping us to get moving to the exits and overpasses so we could get home and for easing the cramps and pain! We are both so happy we weren't caught behind the burned trailer and stopped bumper to bumper for hours! God is good and we can always see the good no matter what we encounter! Thank You, Lord, for Your love, mercy and grace and the Holy Spirit for doing His work to help us! Amen! Sorry this is so long but I needed to tell everything that happened to let you know how bad the traffic jams really were!

God Bless!

Thanks everyone and I have been resting today because I became really exhausted from all the traffic problems of bumper to bumper! I forgot to tell you that when we left Sat afternoon, there was also a long traffic jam on I-270 going to ILLINOIS...couldn't see how far it was but I told Cliff I sure am glad we don't have to be in that, as we were going in the opposite direction to get to I-44 turn off, or we might never get to Cuba, MO. Glad to be home and sleep in my own bed! Cliff is tired also but we survived and did have a safe trip.....So, thanks for all your prayers!

God Bless!

I-44 can be a nightmare! We used to get stuck in traffic starting at Times Beach, stretching west to 6 Flags when we went there in the summer.

Thanks J and just wanted you to know there isn't a Times Beach any more, as the houses are all gone and it has been made into a Route 66 Park, and there are more exits to 6-Flags, so a lot fewer accidents! Used to be a big mess with traffic backed up with people trying to exit onto the one exit ramp....very bad ones too! Praise God that there are more exit lanes now and less backing up into the I-44 lanes! Cliff and I saw many license plates from other states.....Indiana has IN GOD WE TRUST on theirs......and one was from California! I told Cliff they were probably saying, We thought we left California and now we have all this traffic just like back home! God Bless and go :detecting: and find some really nice goodies and relics!

My parents moved to Alton right around the time that Mr. Russell Bliss sprayed his PCB laden oil all around the community. It was closed around the time I moved there. I had heard that it was a park of some sort. I'm glad its of some use now!

Yes, J, I believe it is a state park and I remember about the contaminated oil spraying and think that we had it on our streets out in Jefferson County, because just walking in the neighborhood would make me weak and sick! He caused a lot of health problems and a lot of money to get it off Times Beach! They used an incinerator to burn all the dirt that was scooped up and put into it! For shame too, as most of those people had lived there for years! One of the members of our club lived there, an older woman, and she wasn't happy about it at all, but had to move out!

Now, the gov't is taking homes and land from people by Imminent Domain....caused a big, big problem in parts of Sunset Hills, MO! Only a few people got paid for their homes, but had bought another one because they were supposed to buy out all the homes and left them with two house payments, so some lost both homes, as the houses had been gutted by their owners to use in their other homes! We are supposed to be the gov't but the leaders think they own everything and we don't have any rights at all! May God have mercy on their souls!

God Bless!
