Hi, everyone, I rested yesterday and did more yard work today.....still have

more raking to do in back yard before I can mow. I explained in the posts below, but will again concerning why I have to rake and clean before mowing! I have four Pin-Oak trees (2 large & 2 med size). They are very messy and shed limbs of various sizes and wooden balls all over the front and back yards. There are so many from the winter that there's no way I could mow, as they would dull and damage the blades which mulch!
The wooden balls doubled on the trees over this past winter and the squirrels eat the insects out and spit the wood out. There are what looks like wooden apple cores all over the place and a big mess including wooden balls and limbs; therefore, I have to pick-up and rake-up before mowing. I also have loads of sweet-gum-balls from my neighbor's tree and they have to be raked and picked up before I can mow! Shame on me, but I have and am praying for that tree to die, as most of the gum-balls fall into my yard when the wind blows!
Also, have too many leaves to mulch as would be knee deep in the mulch from all of them, so have to bag and have the yard waste men get rid of it! You would not believe the leaves that four Pin-Oaks can produce! I HATE PIN-OAKS!
I have about 1/2 to a full day of raking and bagging of sticks, balls and wooden-apple cores and then probably a couple of days of mowing, as I cannot do too much at one time or in one day, so when my neighbors are finished and enjoying their lawns, I'm still working!
Posting late tonight and it's bedtime and I'm tired...really not feeling well as I have indigestion or pain around my heart...I do take heart medicine, but not helping much tonight!
I hope you are all detecting and finding lots of coins and goodies. Hopefully, it will rain again and I can get out in a week or so to hunt for treasure, when I'm not cleaning and mowing the lawn!
God Bless & HH!

I used to have continuous indegestion until I cut way back on starches, sugar and such. Now its practically non-existant.

I had a riding mower that just couldn't cut the mustard. I finally got a diesel tractor and a 5 ft. mower deck. I run over just about anything now and it mulches it up. But those magnolia burrs sure do make a racket when I run over them. As far as raking, I still do some, and when the piles of leaves get to big I just pull them all to one big pile with the grader/box blade on the tractor and let them compost to use later.

Rest and relax it will be done soon. The Lord will take care of you, beyond what the medicine does for sure. HHing Betty.

prayers that you feel better! Next: Pin oaks + chainsaw = Firewood! As for the gum balls, bag them up, chew them and blow bubbles! Just kidding. I hope you get to feeling better!

including detecting Dont push it, there's always tomorrow, steve

I have a self-propelled push mower. A few of my neighbors have riding mowers. There is no place to go with a big pile of leaves on my property, so have to mulch &/or get rid of them some other way. I have a large Dogwood tree that I put mulch under, but takes a long time to mulch and sometimes I just bag the leaves and pay for yard waste hauling. My yard isn't real big, but I have a portion of the common ground that I take care of, so my yard will look nice. Back yard is small and am I glad when it's time to mow. The neighbor behind me has a huge yard! I would hate to mow that one and he doesn't have a riding mower!
Most people that looked at my house, while I had it up for sale, wanted a larger yard; so what is a person to do....smaller for yard care or larger so it'll sell. I guess there is about a third acre, but not sure!
Not sure I'll do any work today, although it is a beautiful, sun-shiny day! If I go detecting than I will be too tired to work and if I work than I am too tired to go detecting.
Too soon old; too late smart... If at all!

maybe a flame thrower will burn off the excess woods and 'balls' and give you a nice fresh green lawn - sure is too bad the flame thrower took out the neighbor's tree in the process.
I have a tree - unknown what it is but is sheds limbs, twigs, branches, etc. too. Still have to do the same as you - rake it up and get rid of it all.
Taking care of you is more important than overdoing to get the yard work done. Will pray God helps you feel better Betty.

elderly than I am and into my next-door-neighbor's lava rock bed with ornamental trees who is younger but has a job so cannot always work in the yard. He helps me a lot or I wouldn't get done what needs to be done!
I sure would get some angry looks and possibly even run out of the neighborhood!
Pete, I could use that flame thrower in my front yard, as the weeds have taken over which will make the lawn bare if I kill them, so problems, problems and more problems! Cannot do all the work myself and not much money to have the work done!
Oh well, the Lord provides; so blessed be the name of the Lord!
God Bless!
Betty
