learned something new today i have the ace 250. i was working a beach that i have worked before many times but today it was windy, as i worked the beach in front of the power lines everything was OK, but when i went on the other side with the wind going across the lines ace went crazy. i turned down my sens. one bar at a time and it did it on all. so i went back to the other side of the lines and everything was back to norm. the lines hung about 80 feet. and i have hunted that side with no trouble before. has anyone have this happen to them with any other detector?:sad:

high power lines

Could it be that at times there is more power, or usage ,in a set of lines than at other times. (I have had this happen b4 also). I don't know if that is even possible, don't know much about power lines. Its all I could figure.
Other than that ,it makes no sense to me. Maybe ,,, science,,, barometric pressure, moisture in the air, lol, I'm out of my league here,,,,,.Heat,cold, dry air,moon phase, they all line up and cause a aura of eletrical disturbance.
I got to quit,, it hurts.

He was on the downwind side of the electricity.

The 1266X was one of my favorite detectors. I'd say it qualified for a Top 10 spot. Rugged, well balanced and deep, it was a great all-around model. It was a happy in a school yard as it was in the fields.Uncle Willy said:It was noisy standing in the closet.

It had a famous "snap, crackle, pop" sort of discrimination, over iron especially. But I always saw that as "iron ID", as opposed to troublesome noise.
Its greatest attribute was the dual mode discrimination, though. You could hunt in low DISC and then switch to a higher setting to determine if a target was a coin, etc. Tesoro's Tejon, learned this trick from the Fisher 1266X.
I have a 1236X2 today, because of the 1266X.
Was it cloudy, foggy, or the air real moist? If you go out near power lines under these conditions you may actaully even "hear" the lines snapping, cracking, popping, and buzzing in these conditions. I have many times witnessed this. It may have been that the wind was pushing the moist electrified air to that side of the lines?
I should remind some out there to be real careful under high powered lines as I know of surveyors who have had their equipment get fried from discharges of these lines. I personally have been "zapped" real good under power lines from a discharge from the vehicle I was in while working one day. Putting a "pigtail" (rubber inpregnated with metal fragments) (suggested by the power company) on the truck to drag on the ground removed the threat of this happening again.
