Hip mount

I was told that when you hip mount a P.I. unit the movement of the power cord would cause false signals. Is this generally true, or only on some brands???

Hi Pete,
Do you mean the cable from the control box to the coil? The only time this can cause false signals, is if it moves down at the coil end because it has not been sufficiently secured to the lower shaft. This can occur with either shaft or hip mounting. I have not heard of movement of the loop of cable from the top of the shaft to the control box, when hip mounting, causing any problem with any brand.
Eric.

Eric could please post the photo again of the hipmount set up on the sd2200 that you made for Bill Harris for beach detecting.

kris

Pete I have heard of this I think it was caused by a break down in the shielding in the lead so if the leads are in good condition you should have no problems .

Hi Kris,
Here is a closeup of the hipmount adaptor I made for the SD2200. You can see the Koss amplifier mounted in an additional plasic housing on the side. Also, between the control box and the belt mounting plate is a 3.8Ah Nimh battery pack which can be seen in the next photo. All this and a lighter shaft, made the SD very user friendly.

This is an earlier hipmount, but the only difference is the plastic box to house the Koss. The control box just slides into the runners and is locked in place with the spring clips.
