Hip Replacement And Metal Detecting?

Bell-Two

Active member
I just talked to my doctor and he reccomended a total hip replacement. Have anyone out there had this done and how did it affect your detecting, such as ability to kneel etc. I would appreciate any help. Did not know where to post this but this is the forum I visit the most.

Can not say about the metal detecting, but I was Rural Letter Carrier for years. Had a farmer on my route that had a hip so bad he couldn't stand to get in and out of a car. They finally talked him into having a hip replacement. From what he told me he could do anything he had ever done, even rode for hours on his bumpy old tractor with no pain, and was able to get on and off with no pain. Get it done. Rick IL.

I had a Boss one time, get a hip replacement and he went skiing one year later. So maybe its not all bad. Sorry to hear this by the way.

The club I belong too has a 94 year old, he just had a hip replacement 2 years ago. He still gets out and does well. Getter done!! Hope things go well.

Howdy! Cant tell you how much relief I gained by my hip replacement. I am a twenty plus year letter carrier for the USPS, and have walked a 15 mile a day route for all those years. I had a full right knee replacement in 1977 after a car accident which left my leg 1/2 inch shorter than the other. This contributed to my right hip deteriorating to the point where I was having difficulty doing my job daily, and had also gained a severe limp. I had a full hip replacement (Biomet Magnum) two years ago. I was back doing my job 7 weeks later, walking the 15 miles a day. No pain....No limp... and they extended the leg back to its correct length in the process! I bought my ETrac before my surgery with the idea that I would use it during my recovery. I also joined the forum during that time. The metal detecting was very helpful with the recovery process in helping me gain flexibility with bending, stretching, and also giving me some extra walking beyond my recommended daily walks when recovering. I had NO problems while metal detecting with the new hip. The first couple of weeks will feel kind of rough, but recovery is quickly uphill from there. Hope this helps.....

Not sure about the Hip replacement, but a lady in a small Toyota decided to use me as a target while I cross the road in Nov. 2010. Didn't know what a have tibial plateau fracture
was until then. Now left knee all steel, getting down was easy, BUT getting up a whole new problem. Spring hunt was very hard and easier to just not hunt, but found that few times
I went out this month I had no problem getting up! Now looking forward to next summer. Main think is to do all the PT they give you, and you will be fine. Good luck.

Looks like those that have had it, are doing well Tony. Whatever you decide you always be "HIP" in my book.
