I got this tutorial from Sven of the MinelabMusketeer yahoo group and decided to give it a go. Some of the parts I already had in my junk pile. I had to buy the two audio taper A1K pots and hearing protection headset. I found both on feebay. The speakers I raped from an old trashed pair of AKG K240 headphones.These work great with my Musketeer. Fun project.

Looks good!!! But how do they sound, have you tried them yet. Can you post the step by step, and or the parts list. I know it's pretty basic but whats a little cheat sheet to go along with the project going to hurt. Thanks.
 
They sound great, and work great. The headphone shells you can probably find on ebay doing a search on hearing protection. The newest style ratphone shells are around $25-35. http://www.srstactical.com/left_right.php
The shells I used are Bilsom Clarity C1 I got for $11.99 with free shipping. The pots are Alpha A1K audio taper volume controls and are around $2.50 each.
The headphone jack I had in a junk box along with the knobs. The speakers I used are 600 ohm so I did'nt need a limiter. If using less you made need to solder a limiter inline (resistor and LED. This was my first attempt at this project. I got my info from Sven at the Minelab Musketeer yahoo group. Attached is a sketch that Sven made that should help.

Dumb question, why do you not need a limiter w/ 600 ohm elements? And yes, a parts list (especially for the led) would be nice. Thanks, Ron.
 
Not sure why a limiter is not needed with the 600 ohm speakers. The person who helped me out with it said that. Here's a link to the tutorial I followed created by Sven on the musketeer yahoo group. Hope this helps.

P.S. Just used these headphones and sniffed another silver rosie (1946) from a so called hunted out spot. Three times there and silver each time.

Nope. Just followed the tutorial. I'm not too good with electronics but I can follow the instructions and can solder well enough to get the job done.

you have to belong to the yahoo group, maybe the poster could just put the pdf on here for us to download, If you need help doing it or a place to store it then contact me and I can help you with that. I wouldn't mind a copy of it anyways. thanks for posting this I have already started to make my list of parts, I also came up with another thing to add to it to make it the best MD headphones on the market. Super bright LED's built into the sides to shine on what you are looking at. I will put about 4 or so LED's on both sides and run them from either 3 AAA's or one Nine volt from inside the headphone, I am sure that there will be enough room in there, I looked at a couple of mine and I have plenty of room in there for a 9 volt. Not a bad Idea huh, LOL put a micro toggle switch to turn them on and off and man you have something there. I think If they work out good enough I will sell a couple of them to make a few extra bucks.
