Wow! Who would have expected the beautiful weather we had this past weekend in the greater Cleveland area!! Temps in the mid to high 60's. Loved it!
The weather gave Rob and I a great opportunity to metal detect a couple of parks we have been wanting to try. The first day, I had to admit that I was a little disappointed we didn't find much of anything just some clad and one wheat penny. We expected that to be a potential prime spot.
The second day we went to an old park and metal detected from 9 am until about 6 pm. The forecast said rain all day so we thought we would get an early start. However, the rains never came....ended up being a beautiful day. Between the both of us, we found a decent amount of clad coins. Rob found a beautiful 1944 Mercury dime and a 1943 silver quarter. I was kind of bumming out because he trumped my 1949 silver Roosevelt dime and 3 wheats. ha ha. But not to fear, as dusk was approaching, I decided to dig a nice sounding tone that I suspected to be a 7" deep wheat penny. I figured what the heck, I might win in the wheat penny category when we compare our finds for the day. To my surprise, this wheat penny was playing tricks on my eyes, I kept trying to make out the front and thought could this be an Indian head. Nah...every time I think that, it never is. So, I turned it around to see if I could see the memorial image or wheat penny design --- whoa --- when I saw the "one cent" mark exactly lke IHPs have... I was like "Yes Yes Yes!!" and I did the Rocky Balboa hands up in the air cheer as Rob was walking towards me wondering ...what did she find??? ha ha. I have been wanting to find one of these for the longest time, I think it is just the coolest coin. It is a 1902 and in pretty decent shape. So, needless to say, I am a very happy treasure hunter to say the least. I was so glad Rob was approaching right after I found it so we could share the celebratory moment together.
Still waiting to find an SLQ or a Barber quarter. I'll be pretty excited if and when I find either of those.
Happy Hunting All - I love this hobby!!!
