how can I adjust my Tejons discrimination

wishfish

Member
I just recently got a Tejon and I've noticed that my alt and normal discrimination discriminate things out at very different places. My alt discrimination seems to work fine but my normal discrimination needs to be put a lot higher than it should be to discriminate things out. For example, to discriminate out nails on my normal disc I have to put it halfway through foil, and on alt I only have to put it around the iron mark. How do I adjust that?

Wondering if the knob has slipped its position on the shaft.
Loosen and readjust the knob position then snug the knob on the shaft - maybe.
With the knob removed, adjust the shaft let's say to a known target (i.e. nickel) then reset the knob to match - just guessing

I could see if that does anything. Do I take it off with that Allen key hole on the side of the knob?

I could be wrong as I used to have a Tejon and also my Shadow X5 and they seem to work the same and both a excellent detector. The Disc is the main disc is the normal disc which is set low to hear anything other than iron, the alt disc is actually like a higher disc to tell if it is a copper or belter coin , on my X5 it is called coin check. This way you are detecting for anything other than nails and if the signal sounds good you switch over to the alt disc and it still reads good you have a higher conductivity item. Like I say I could be wrong, but think this is how it works on the Shadow X5 and the Tejon, its like a second disc, at the lower setting it says it is a metal item better than a iron nail, so you switch to the alt disc and it will tell you if it is higher than what that disc is set at. When I had mine I set the reg disc to lower than a nickel and the alt disc set to just start breaking up a pull tab. I would swing away and when I got a solid signal I would switch to the alt disc and it it sounded good I would dig. If it didnt and sounded good in reg disc it could be a nickel or even a pulltab and depending on how it sounded. Some of the other Tesoro's Umax some would just turn the disc knob and do the same thing, but feel it took longer.

Good Luck and hope that helps you out.

I was wondering the same thing Rick, but the reference scales for both disc, controls are the same…
I understand what you are saying though and they would not normally be set at the same setting anyhow while detecting.

After suggesting about removing the knob I looked closer at where the discs start and stop. I noticed that the alt and normal disc start and stop at different points. I removed the knob from the pot and adjusted it to start and stop at the same point as the alt disc. Now it works just like it should. Such a simple solution. Glad I didn’t have to open the machine up

And just incase anyone was wondering what size Allen key for the pots. Its a 1.5 mm

Like I say this is what I remembered and can be wrong, the second disc is like a notch feature so it only has smaller Disc amount to get rid of a small area of disc, like it will set up to get nickels and the second disc reject the area where most pullabs would read and small enough so you wouldnt reject the older wheat of IH penny. Like I say its been a while since I had mine, but cant remember the knobs being Aline with one another. I do remember it being a excellent detector and wish I would maybe kept it . going to see if I can read the instruction on the internet as my memory isnt as good as it used to be years ago, but this is what I remember how I used mine. Out of the Tesoros The Dejon was one of my favorite non meter detectors as it could do so much.

have tried many different detectors and hard to remember them all, some like my Sovereigns as the tones and keeping that tone untill it sees a different target I know well (took a while) and for my non metered detectors it is my Troy Shadow X5, if I didnt one my next choice was the Tejon for my coin and relic detector.

Here is the link to the owners manual. I remembered it somewhat and it will explain the 2 disc as the trigger switch in center is in the detect mode, pull back and it is in pinpoint and push it forward and that is the second disc where it disc what you set the second disc for. So I remembered some of it, but maybe not the right terms. I knew it was like the Shadow X5.

I understand what you are saying Rick and you are correct.
I think OP was that both disc controls had to be set at different positions to knock out a certain target.
I think in this case, the knob needed to be re adjusted on the shaft.
I never had the Tejon, but have heard they are very good and deep.
I do have a Vaquero which I like and if it had the two tone feature like the Deeptech detectors, it would be an even better detector.
I know you love the Sovereigns and you helped me when I got my Sovereign some years ago.
I had some good success with it, but it started getting too heavy to use.
I am now using the Equinox 800 which I love.

Tejon is basically a 2 different disc pattern as center position on the toggle switch is where the you set the disc for hunting and the alt it set for the the targets to reject most of the pull tabs, but yet get the copper pennies and higher, just save a lot of time in the trashy site, but you do lose the nickels and most gold rings. I found out with the Shadow X5 uses the same thing and calling it coin check and uses a button on the face of the X5 while the Tejon uses the toggle switch.
I too have a 800 , had one before too and with my health I sold it and got a good deal on a used 800. The one I had I was able to get a older V nickel out of well worked school yard, but everything I got after that were small pieces of alm foil that were deeper. Was impressed with it and wanted to use it more, but sold it to a friend. Felix I too believe the Sovereign is way too heavy and one of them I had a straight shaft on it and mounted the control box under the arm cuff which made it balance good so it wasn't too heavy. I like my 180 meter and the S1 probe on it, but didn't balance as good.
