how deep are we getting with the 9in. coil

HI GUYS
most of my spots are iron/minerials and ugly, but will also hit some clean spots. i need something that can weed through the trash
and lite. i use the CTX now and have a ball with it but its giveing me a neck /shoulder problem and have to give it a rest 2-3 times
a week i metel detect 30+ hrs a week.and sometimes more. was thinking on 9 in. coil because of the places i go can be ugly..

any posts on 9in. coil?

thanks 4 any help minelabbob

I have the 9 inch setup and yesterday i dug a few wheat pennies @ 7 inches, and a shotgun headstamp the length of my garret pinpointer..i bought the 9 inch as an purpose coil...large enough for some coverage but yet great seperation..the wheat pennies were loud and clear with id..so i think 8-9 inches would be possible..

I only use a 9'' coil, not only is it very good on my trashy roman/saxon sites but also very good on pasture sites as well, albeit you wont get as much ground coverage as a bigger coil but if you are having trouble swing a big rig anyway its seems pointless, just stick with the 9'' coil and enjoy your detecting.

For normal detecting i tend to use a modified Deus Fast with a few tweaks and also GMP with a few tweaks, thats basically all i use,it works for me on my sites of course across the pond your settings maybe different, but Deus fast will find be small silver cut halves in between the trash,i tend to be one that keeps things simple, rather than altering possibly 100s of permutations i much prefer to just use it as a beep and dig machine albeit a high tech beep and dig machine :)

Have had both the 11" & 9" and now I use the 9" and sold the 11". I saw very little difference in depth only more coverage with the 11", and it seemed a bit more front heavy with the 11" than the 9".

With the 9 " coil, I once hit a 1 real at a conservative 10 inches. A 1 real is a little bigger than a dime. Ground was clean and mineralization was weak however and I was using a deep program. But I would not expect that kind of performance in bad ground.

YA LODGE
i dont except much in bad ground. i just wanted to know what all the xp guys and gals had to say on the 9in. coil.
some of my spots are bad and did not think the 11in. coil would be the best chose.

I can get coins at 9"-12" in Northeastern Ohio's easy digging nonmineralized ground...

HI SAM

that is real good! what were your settings!! i will give it a try but if you can do that on half dime all other coins should be no problem.

i got the dues 4 them meneralized sites i have, were some other detectors just slow down to a crawl.

I've used the 13 X 11 large coil and also the 11" coil...

I think for the Colorado mineralized soil I would like to try a smaller coil since moving here in August. When I lived in Memphis, the 11" coil did great! 11" on a Wheat penny in Reactivity 1 and it was just a whisper. Dug a Barber quarter at 9-10" in Reactivity 2 which was only a one-way hit but slightly more than a whisper.

Whole different ball game out here - Best target I've dug was a 10-cent piece of aluminum play money at 7" (smaller than a dime) which was under a large root. I knew it was going to be something worth digging, but the mineralization out here is much worse. GB reading is about the same as TN, reading 80-85 most of the time but I simply don't get the penetration as I'm used to. That, and aluminum objects read much higher than usual - I've tried everything to get around this but sometimes a deep pulltab will sound like a coin...

Can't wait to see what the smaller coil will do here - trash levels are not *NEARLY* as bad as here but the ground is *MUCH* tougher to see through.

There's a lot more competition out here with other detectorists too. Sidewalk strips continue to be the best places to find coins, but haven't pulled a single Wheat from a public sidewalk strip (yet)

YES I HAVE TO DEAL

with bad soil , trash, and every other thing you can think of. so i think 4 my area a 9in. coil would be better. down the line i may get the 11in.
4 the farm fields in my area. but i think the 9in. will get deep here and there i have seen over the years that them small coils go 12in. in sweet
soil.

Hey Bob,

Sorry for the late reply.

Sens 95
FULL TONES!
Reac 3
Silencer -1
Audio Response 4
DISC 0!
7.5 Khz
Notch 99
Ground Balance Notch 87
Tx Power 2
Ground Balance 2 Below GMI recommended. If it suggests 86, like at most sites I have here... I leave it on 84. There are many hunts I don't even have to move the ground balance.

The area I found it in had low minerals...

Hunting in full tones and 0 disc takes some getting used to, but once you do, you won't miss much.

Reactivity 2 will get you just as deep, with a better signal, but I find the trade off is that deep iron nails will hit both ways. That's no good when you're digging faint, whisper targets with no TID. I find on reactivity 3, deep iron will sound off on one way, where as a deep coin, even a smaller one, will hit both ways on cross swing.

Anyway, good luck amigo!

HI SAM

what kind of depth do get with your settings !! 95 on the SENS. may be tough in some areas 4 me. but i have your settings i will let you know wen i get to it

thanks
