How Deep is Deep?

Terry in PA

New member
Here's a good question! How deep is deep? You hear some guys say that target was deep a good six inches or so. Others say that target was deep a good 8 inches or so. Seven or eight inches to me seems average for most detectors. Deep in my opinion is ten inches or more. Now on a dime sized object if you were to hit it at 8 or 9 inches I'd say that was deep for that size of target. On a quarter sized target I'd say 12 inches was deep and 8 inches average. I know soil minerals and other things come into play but what do you all think?

Terry, when I can get the sens into the high 70's, I have found pennies and dimes at about 8 inches. I would like to think I could get deeper, but that is about the range I can get in my soil. I believe I might get a quarter a couple of inches deeper. I rarely find anything much deeper with my Etrac, but I have found coins well over ten inches with it, with a large cent from about 13 to 14 inches being my deepest coin ever. Eight to nine inches of depth is highly respectable where I hunt. R.L.
