How do you get some "FOD" Headphones!

He shipped them to those individuals who requested them based on who he felt understood their Sovereign well enough to be able to give a good evaluation of them. He only had a limited supply and I think they have all been sent out.
I have used the phones this weekend for an extended hunt. They were very comfortable and sealed the outside noise extremely well. I wore them for nearly 6 hours and had no discomfort even though I wear glasses (some phones pinch the glasses and cause discomfort quickly).
I didn't find the cord to be a problem as some have, perhaps it was the warmer weather. Not stiff and plenty of length on the cord.
As for the tones, these phones have at least as clean and crisp tones as any I have tested. They easily beat my old favorites.
I didn't find the volume too loud. Probably because I only turn my sov on to the minimum volume. I prefer to listen for the very soft deep tones. Turning the volume all the way up would probably make them too loud without some sort of baffle in place (see earlier reviews about this).
I can't speak for FOD but I believe he intends to market these headphones. If he does they would be a good choice if you are looking for the best tone quality and comfort. Very well constructed too.

You can make them yourself.
F.O.D. posted instructions for an earlier version on the tech and mods forum a few months ago.

I would have ask for a set too if I thought he had more than a couple of sets to be checked out as I have bought and sold probably every set of headphones on the market to find the ones that will give me the volume, tone quality, and comfort to be used all day by us that are hard of hearing.
I am keeping a close watch on these evaluations to see what those that have them find good and bad with them, so those that have them keep on reporting your findings as us that are hard of hearing need a good set that will do the job.

Hey Rick.......
If you want, you can give me another week to fool with the ones that I have and I can send them to you to try.
I would mod them back for max volume first. Not a hard job.
Don't think F.O.D. would mind.

--- trying out my new Mac Powerbook laptop with Airport (WiFi), very coool!
What a great guy you are. If you send Rick your headphones, I promise that I will build you a new pair with Volume controls and a light coil cord when I return in September or there abouts.
So many folks sent me e-mails that I went out and bought the parts to build enough for everyone, until Jane said, "That's Enough"!!! So I'm sorry for those of you that missed out, now they are all gone.
I don't have any plans for selling these headphones, at least not in the immediate future. I'm retired, and very happy just enjoying hunting with Jane on the beach. But I like making them for the fun of it, and I have been tinkering with electronics since I was a kid. Hard to break old habits.
One of my next projects is an improved metering system, like the one I now use, only better. And another is a method for recording the Sovereign target tones and analyzing them on my computer and putting the results up on a web page, which is another project.
Just cause you retire doesn't mean you just lay around doing nothing. Now I finally can do the things I didn't have time to do when I was working.
Thanks Art, you are great.

fod:)

Don't know what to say.........
Don't really need another set.
Just doing a friend a service if he wants.
Really appreciate that you wanted me to try them out for you. If you consider that I don't very often go with the mainstream of thought on the Sov, I have considered this a great honor.
Must find out some day if all the Funky (Franken) fones had the same speaker elements.
Don't go to the trouble of making up a special set for me.

Eat some Thai fried rice with fish sauce and Thai chilis for me.
HH again.

next time out. I look forward to using a pair with better noise blanking than the Koss phones I'm using now.
I'm real interested in seeing how your meter project comes out. I'm still trying to find the secret to leaving all the corroded zincs behind.

I would like to try them and see how they compare to what I am using on my Soveregin and maybe even try them on the Explorer with my amp to see how they will compare.
No rush, but when you get time I sure would like to try them. I think you still have my address if not I will give it to you.

Give me another week.
Been taking advantage of the unusually decent weather to clean up the mess of tree limbs and getting other stuff done .
Looks like clear sailing for a while, but I'm sure tired from all the work.

My son has the exact idea of recording the numbers and sound and target to be downloaded to computer after hunting. It can be done and the way he told pertty simple, and not much weight.Wouldnt invole as much as everyone thinks. The first manufacteur who brings this out will sell a lot.Think about it at the end of day you would know what every thing was and what number and depth ground mineral and other data at the end of the day dowloaded to the computer. You could keep track of every hunt and results and compare the data,to improve your finds.Good luck.Almost like having a fish finder but on a different level.
