How do you identify a Metorite?

Those guys who do the meteorite show always stick a rare earth magnet to their equipment and if it sticks to the magnet, it could be a meteorite. Have you got a photo?

No photo Fongu cause I don't have one. If I ever found one I tossed it because I didn't know what it was. That;s why I asked for help. I have a fist sized rock that I thought might be one but It doesn't react to a metal detector or a magnet. Probably a water worn rock.

They stoney ones often have black coloration and an indentation known as a "thumbprint" because it looks like someone pushed in that area with their thumb. The iron ones often have dimples and holes in them that natural ore doesn't. The only sure way is to have one cut and examined.
