How do you like them apples!

Well, August was a grueling month with little to show as far as finds go with the F70...Maybe 25 bucks clad sweeping miles and miles of barren sand. I did find hotwheels cars, lighters, keys, sunglasses, towels, empty cans, a bottle of spiced rum, half packs of cigarettes, junk rings and jewelry, dope pipes, and this bag of apples! This am after another "fruitless" attempt at the beach, with no money in my pocket, I said the hellwiddit and went and grabbed 3.42 bucks clad from some totlots with the F70 in short order and went and bought a few cans of beer for me to cry into and assess the situation. Thinking back, I guess I did find a few nice coin spills, but this was one bleak and unprofitable summer on the dry sand for sure...I dont recall ever seeing drops this few, far between, and poor. Even the empty cans were scarce, and not ONE cellphone, whereas last year I found a dozen. Woulda been way better off hunting the dirt! I ran into the back of a guy at 4:30 am on the beach in the dark as he was detecting and scared the poo out of him! and me too! Lots of new sweepers out there fellas, and they are hitting it hard and early like we used to...hardly any fresh drops missed by sunup. I am in great shape though, miles of hunting the deep powder is good for a fellow even if he dont find a thing. I sure hope somebody out there in F series land has got something to post...big dirt work time is nearly upon us, and I will be pretty happy to get back into it.

Mud, Sure am sorry to hear that thedy are few and far between, My water season kicks off tomorrow, as for my land finds so far this summer I'll have to snap some pics and post them up... New job doesn't leave me with alot of slacking off time like I used to have to post up my finds while bored for hours on end

Buy I will say the Silver and Gold have been floating my way this summer ;)

Wow, I feel for you as I have had the same luck, hours of detecting, thousands of dollars in equipment and very few good finds for long periods of time.
Your post would be right at home in my "New Comers Thread"

Mark

I have noticed many, many new people detecting.

we just have to remember its not all about the finds its the love of hunting and digging my little home town is cleaned out im lucky to find a dollar a outing so i know how you feel, even the amount of fresh drops is way down it seems. im glad its almost time to go salmon and steelhead fishing lol hh

Feel sorry for you Mud it just isn't out there in the sand this year. Hit the beach a few times and ended up with a few coins. Just not worth the arm wear for me to do that anymore.
Like Elton says a lot more guys out there hunting.
It could be time to get back and do some serious detecting in the dirt....
I will be posting a post on my fresh drops today... Glad you got out and great detecting there Mud.....Z

Thanks friends! In fairness it was a coldish summer here, so not a lot of beach trafffic. I'll do some more water hunting as the cuts open up from some Fall storms, but now that school starts tomorrow, it will be running the totlots on the weekends and pounding the sportsfields after the games. Then it will be back into the snow pile hunting. I am sure a lot of the newbies were very discouraged over the lack of easy finds on the beach and will probably hang it up. I encourage all interested to get into this amazing sport, but it takes a certain mindset of having a successful day to leave the house and get serious about finding some metal, and then sticking with it long enough to understand what its all about. The beaches up here are a poor place to learn since the signals are so few and the season is short, but it does develop endurance and a steady swing pattern. I can say I am no worse for wear, my feet dont hurt anymore like they did when the season started, I feel an over all wellness you know? A good kind of well balanced soreness with nothing in particular hurting more than the rest anyway!

OK so that those having a hard go at it this season know it isn't all gone out there, here are some of my finds of note for the last two months ;)

Rings from left to right : 14k , Sterling, 10k white gold w/ 8 birth stones, sterling w/ onyx, 1940-50s Red Goose "Jet Pilot" kids copper ring, men's big plated ring w/ turquoise.
One US Army WWI-WWII era button , 1917, 1935 mercs, 1962, 64' & 55' Rosie's and a fat 1950 Franklin half and just under $100 in clad.

This is the motivation now go get after it :twodetecting:

Good luck and stay safe,

Lakota

Hmmmm, well, there are apples and then there are apples. Might as well take a bite! HH jim tn

Ha! Good one, Deadeye! I do hunt heads up looking for a wad of bills, but I will take whats there, sometimes its a bottle of gatorade, or a can of beer, or whatever...I eat and drink everything thats sort of unopen that I find..figure its the Lords way of providing me...Lakota, that there Ben Franklin is my dream coin! One of these days I hope to find one myself, seems they are very rare for us to find...I bet more people have found Standing Lib Q's or Barber halfs than a Franklin....I use my eyes a lot when hunting, looking for a ring or necklace on higher places like picnic table tops and signs etc...working into the rising sun to see a glimmer of something shiny pulls me right up there! These coils area so small, a fellow has to make the most of paying attention to other drops..I once found a wad of 20's along the beach parking area a few years ago by driving slowly through the area and looking for them, in the dark, right where folks go skinny dipping, saw them in the headlights...I like this aspect of the sport, up early and out searching for anything of value, using all the available senses to find that score, a found snickers bar is a real treat at sun-up boys! Looking forward to Halloween, all sorts of candy scattered about in the totlots to fuel my sugar high!.
