How does the ETRAC compare re ID's

Bilko

New member
Just wanted to know peoples' opinions on how good the number id on the ETRAC is compared to other machines? I have only used the ETRAC so can't compare it to anything

i have had two detectors before the etrac i had a tesora laser hawkeye and a garrett they bored me as i never understood them and never got any decent finds with the etrac i bring home good finds every day and that is why i cant wait until the next day to go hunting again so addictive its awesome and i think it can suit all levels from the beginner where you can turn on and hunt to the experienced whoooopee

As for the number ID - it is fair but not as accurate as you would think at good depths. The good news is that the cursor and numbers tend to RANGE in an area of the exact number and you get used to that. You get kind of an averaging of numbers that hover around your target number, for example: I don't swing both ways and get a 12 44 on a dime if deeper than about 4 inches, instead I get , 11 45 12 44 12 46 kinda like that but hovering over the number...If I do this enough I will see that the number hits mostly on the key number. Then I pinpoint and it gives me a feel for if the target is a small round object and accurately sized for the depth. I can also switch to an open screen in quick mask and check the number there...if the cursor now has drooped to the bottom right corner I would think it is iron being tricky, but if it still pinpoints as a small object at depth I still recommend you dig it.

The advantage of the E trac is that it is not just the number you want to use to determine a good target...it gives lots more information to use. The sound is a Hugh factor for me.

good luck

Well I use it in a little different way. It will do a very great job of id'ing the coin before you dig it if you are in nice clean ground. No doubt that there is a blending factor going on in the ground with surrounding targets that will through the TID off. If you can isolate it with very small movements of the coil it does a good job. After the machine has been learned thoroughly or you have become very comfortable with it you don't need the TID at all really. Dig by sound. let the sounds alert you to investigate more and dig. I look at the TID while laying the machine down to dig and that's about all.

Me, too, but what about the sound for gold in 4 conductive?

This is probably going to sound a bit confusing, but here goes anyway.

The most accurate target ID I've seen is on the DFX or MXT. Now let me define what I mean by accurate. By accurate I'm talking about the ability to accurately tell say a clad dime from a silver dime. In this process I believe the White's VDI system is more accurate. Now, that being said, the E-Trac is by far the most accurate at deep targets, and the ability to convey that information to the user. The E-Trac will give the user a pretty good ID on extremely deep targets, just not as precise as say the DFX, but much deeper.
