How does the Safari Pinpointer function work?

Have a new Safari but because of some health and other issues, haven't had a chance to try it out. From studying the manual I've got a good idea of what to expect except for the pinpointing mode. The manual didn't discuss that in detail.
Just wondering if it has a no motion + VCO like the DFX has or is it more difficult to pinpoint with?

In pinpoint mode, you don't move the coil except to find the strongest signal. You can get real good at it. The object should be in the center of your coil. If you do it from 2 directions, you'll be dead on.

You were right about the no motion, which I failed to mention.

Another thing I like about the PP feature is you can get a good idea of the size of the object using the PinPoint. I once uncovered a large sign & was able to locate the outer edges of the sign using the PP, It was in the woods so I dug it up thinking maybe something was buried under the sign. Turns out it was just an old sign, nothing under it, but you never know

Since M2 mentioned size of object under the coil, I like that feature too (indicating the probable size of object as coil is lowered). If I'm in a park or on a maintained lawn or property the loudness of target will help me determine whether to dig or not. If the Safari is screaming in PP mode as high as 1-1.5 feet above target, it's big and will likely not be dug, unless I'm out in the woods and fields.
