How I clean my iron...

This is how I clean my iron relics using electrolysis.

Thanks for the video CD
Very informative.
How'd the hoe and knife come out??

Couple of things I do with electrolysis...
First off they don't sell manual battery chargers in the socialist state of cali….:sadwalk:
I just happened to have an old one. :clapping:

These are just MY other ideas on the subject.
I mix my electrolyte (baking soda & water) before I put anything in it. Just so it's mixed well.
I don't like to drill any holes unless I have to. I don't want to take the chance of damaging the relic.
I clean a inconspicuous spot to bare metal and wrap in wire.
And after electrolysis and baking I like to dip the relic into a pan of melted Paraffin Wax and after it cools buff it with a soft cloth or paper towel. This seals it both inside and out.
You just can't beat electrolysis for cleaning rusty relics.
Here's a 1920's cap gun I found in my yard.
Before and after...

I have never had luck without drilling the 1/16 inch hole and putting the screw in it. BTW a really nice job on the cap gun!

thanks CD. i'vd been wanting to do that for awhile so seeing this video helped. i have a few nice old iron relics that I hope can clean up like yours did.

In the pan...in the oven. After I washed the relic off with clean water.
