FBS detectors, I have been told somany times, are not as sensitive to small gold.

And yet, Minelab advertises that their FBS detectors operate at multiple frequencies up to 100 kHz.

How can a detector capable of operating at 100 kHz not be the most incredibly sensitive detector to tiny gold ever manufactured?

I have raised this topic before and still haven't gotten a straight answer. Logically, all FBS detectors working with all those frequencies 1KHz-100KHz including all the big gold, little gold, picker size, flake size etc; etc; frequencies 15KHz, 18KHz etc; etc;. should be able to pick up the signals.
All I can say is it's just all in the marketing.
Making an exclusive single frequency model stating it's for detecting a specific size of gold will sell that model. Again, another detector exclusively made to respond to another smaller or bigger nugget size having a different KHz even if it's only 2 or 3 KHz difference!!!! will sell that model as well.
That said, I love the technology that Minelabs (FBS) offer and the Safari is my primary 'go to' detector. That Safari has paid for itself MANY TIMES OVER!!!!

I have to agree. It just seems so odd, though, doesn't it?

I'm not knocking the Safari or any of the FBS detectors at all, their abilities are well documented.

Since they are so good at finding deep silver (which would seem to engage the lower kHz frequencies on the detector), why wouldn't it do the same thing on small gold utlizing the the higher kHz scale?

Like you say, it may just be a limitation in how the detector can process those higher frequencies.

I have found 3 small gold pieces with the 11" coil on the Safari. Just posted one today that I found yesterday. Yet when doing an air test they aren't seen. I believe it has something to do with the ground matrix. I notice a difference in the tone. One being a Harley Davidson shaped belly ring and 2 small signet rings. The first rang in at an 8 and the others at 18. It has a "warm" tone to it while slaw comes in as a hollow sound. My friend has a E Trac and finds lots of gold rings with his. Larger coils are less sensitive to smaller items in general. Untill you learn the tone its just dig a lot of trash.
