How long does it take clad to turn brown

Just curious if anyone has done any experiments to see how long it takes a clad coin to turn brown underground?

Depends on what you mean by "brown" Eg. : how "brown" ?

They seem to get immediately speckled. Depending on your definition of "immediately ". And then "brown" depending on how deeply you mean.

Well, here's another "what if?": Depends on the type soil. I've seen some soil types where it takes years to get colored. And I've seen other soil types (wet salt beach for example) where we're getting THAT season's losses (hence only a few months old) and already turning varying degrees of speckled. Or if they're deeper brown, we assume they're multi-year-season coins (leading us to believe erosion has gone deeper). Or sometimes a few days tumbled in the surf actually removes speckles.

But .... I know your question was about ground, not wet-beach-sand. But again I'd say: Depends on type of ground, moisture, etc.... Yours look to be a few years. But that's just a guess.
