How long have you been swinging?

Going into my third season. I've hunted hard and found good coins and relics. I still have much to learn, but no longer feel like a newby. This winter I've really gotten it together with research.

Off and on for 27 years, started out with a compass, ( my first green machine). My brother and i thought we could be like the Hardy Boys! once you start treasure hunting, you never get it out of your system !!!

Started out in 2004. Wife says one day why don't you get a metal detector because when we go the the beaches in Maine and Florida your always walking the beaches looking for what you can find. So I said sure just to make her happy. Why in the world would I want a metal detector. They're boring. I found a used White's Quantum II
at a local dealer near me. So I went swinging, and I found stuff, and the more I went the more I found. It wasn't long before we went out to dinner on the change I found.
Then I found some jewelry and came home and gave for the ring. Never knew something that was going to be so boring could be so much fun.
I've been through five machines so far and tried the Ace 250 just because everyone was talking about it. It's going to be my 3rd year with the Ace 250 and loving it.
Looking back now I couldn't be more happier that my wife introduced me to one great hobby.
Just last year I bought the new DD 10 x 14 coil that Kellyco puts out. It's one tough coil to beat.

Happy Hunting

I guess that I should add that I initially bought an ACE 250. I used that the first year and almost immediately found a gold wedding band in a school yard, and some really great old coins. The second year I put the 9x12 coil and rain cover on it and found great relics along with old coins. Entering my third year I have my ACE waiting to go and I bought a Tejon for deeper fur trade relics. It will be interesting to take the ACE with the bigger coil and the Tejon out together. I want to carry one in each arm in my relic field (but turned on separately). Then I'll find a hit with the Tejon and see if the ACE can nail it also. I'll use buried brass 45-75 cartridge cases to test them. I have a spot used by the North West Mounted Police in the 1880's as a practice range. Tractors were through the spot many times, years ago, but not recently. I've been digging casings for their 1875 Centennial big bore lever action rifles for two years now, and they keep coming up. The spot also coughs up uniform buttons and other goodies. I do not believe that the ACE has the same depth as it had some difficulty with really deep hits now and then, but I do believe that the ACE will stand up better in the comparison than some non users think. I'm not looking at this as some hard core comparison, just some light curiosity.
