How many have your own big rock in a river?

Seems like there is another big rock like that somewhere on the
Canadian River up in Oklahoma not far from where my place is,
but I've never been there. I've seen pictures of it, and it's just like
that one nearly. At first, that's the one I thought it was until I read the
text.

What is the significance of this rock?

One big diversion piece. Too bad its not a big gold nugget :yikes:

i have fished many times in the gascanade. don't recall the revis rock. but i will look for it next time. freeburg is a nice little community. knew the sheriff there many years ago. he was quite a character. before he was a sheriff, he starred in a soap opera for quite a few years.

I have no idea other than it bears my name. I tried to traceit down but the history went so far back the city had no records.

Bout like the one on the Canadian river. I checked it out, and that rock was
actually very close to where my property is. Maybe 5 miles or so to the north.
I'm just south of the river/lake.
They said it had probably been there for loads of years, and the side facing the
flow was worn smooth from the water.
But now with the dam they built in the late 50's, that rock is covered up by Lake
Eufaula most of the time. Only when it's super dry does a tip of it peek up a bit.
When the lake level is at max, the rock tip is about 25 ft under the surface.
Before the lake, the rock stood above the river about 63 feet. I've got an old
1800's picture of it somewhere in my collection, but it would probably take a
while to find it. But it looked a lot like the Revis rock.
They say it was considered a prime fishing hole back years ago.

They say De Soto noticed it on his travels..
From one site...
Indian historians claim that in 1541, when Hernando De Soto crossed the
Mississippi River near Memphis and continued his journey westward, he passed
through the southern part of McIntosh county. As evidence they point to the huge
rock in the middle of the Canadian River, known as Standing Rock, as being
identical with the Standing Rock described in the Spanish record of De Soto's Travels.
Also, There is a claim that not many years ago a skeleton was unearthed near the
Canadian River, clad in full Spanish armor.

Even a treasure story related to it.. :/
